Thyriod meds when on steroids and antibiotics

Hi

I have a chest infection and have to take steroids (AM) and then 3 x tablets daily of antibiotics.

How long do I need to wait after taking my Thyriod meds before I take my steroids and antibiotics?

At least two hours gap between thyroid meds and any other medication.

As someone who has lung disease and has had this same treatment a few times, I've not had a problem with taking the steroids and antibiotics as I always take my thyroid meds during the early hours of the morning when I regularly need to visit the bathroom. It's just a case of working out suitable timing for the week you're on these meds.

thank you. I’ll make sure that the steroids and antibiotics are over 2 hours from taking my thyroid meds. Do you take the steroids and antibiotics together or apart from each other?

I'm afraid I can't remember, nor can I remember whether the particular antibiotic I normally have (amoxicillin) needs to be taken with food. Check the patient information leaflets.

Would you say steroids have any impact on thyroid meds and levels?

No idea long term I'm afraid, my courses of steroids have only ever been 5-7 days and as the whole amount was taken in one dose it was well away from thyroid meds, and I haven't noticed any particular lasting effect on levels.

thanks. It does mention interaction with hypothyroidism in info on steroids. But who knows how or what.

How long is your course? If only a short course I wouldn't worry too much, if longer then I'd chat to GP or pharmacist.

nah sadly lots of courses and likely on for a while… new brittle asthma nastiness. Waiting on hospital appt.

Anyway turns out thyroid was the least of my worries!
