I got my Medicheck results this morning. All seem to be sitting pretty much within range (See below).
My main question is do I pursue this further with my family history (Mother - no thyroid function, grandmother - has hypothyroidism - Uncle - has hypothyroidism) and also my symptoms (Cold all the time, tired, always gaining weight and suffer from anxiety).
That's a pretty good set of thyroid results. You can't even go the "Central Hypothyroidism" route (where the problem lies with the pituitary or the hypothalamus) because you'd need a very low FT4 with a normal/low/slightly elevated TSH for that).
What I would do is look at your B12.
ACTIVE B12 71.200 pmol/L 37.50 - 188.00
According to this article, anything below 70 should be tested for B12 deficiency.
and if you have any then list them and ask your GP to test for B12 deficiency/pernicious anaemia. They should go by symptoms, not numbers, where this is concerned.
I have suspected low vitamin B12 due to my anxiety. I did buy some B complex tablets the other week but did not take it due to my blood test. Might try them to start with and do a retest in a month or so. I have to go to the hospital for blood tests which takes half a day and lots of fuel. Different organisations seem to have varying levels of what is deficient.
Do you have any of the signs/symptoms from the link I gave?
If so do not start your B Compex. The methylfolate in it (or folic acid if you've bought a cheap one) will mask signs of B12 deficiency. Testing needs to be done before supplementing.
If you do have any of the signs/symptoms, please see your GP and ask for testing. As I said, it's symptoms, not numbers that doctors should be guided by.
