Advice about NDT and T3 and recommendations for private endos please

Hi everyone,

So following on from my last post I've been back on levo for nearly 4 weeks but this time on 50mcg. I noticed that a couple of days later the persistant sharp and crushing pain I was getting in my chest and the constant sore and swollen feeling throat pains had near enough gone, I still have trouble taking full and deep breaths but at least its not so painful to breath! I also foundout that the worsening dizziness (to the point I couldn't stand up much) was down to my liquid zinc and b-complex and so I've stopped taking those because it was SO bad! None of my other symptoms have been getting better though and I feel that my fatigue is actually worse and I can no longer get up at 8 in the morning, I've been waking up and taking my medication and then going back to sleep until sometimes nearly 12! I can't go on like this, I just want the fatigue and brain fog to give me a bit of a break so I can look for part time work or just do the things I am doing without being exhausted from them. I haven't been taking my vitamins and minerals consistently and my diet has fallen off the wagon so I know I need to get back on with that and I will, I'm trying not to be too hard on myself because of my mental health and issues I have with disordered eating but enough is enough... I'm so f**king tired I feel dead :'( I'm 30 next month and really don't see how I can go on like this for the rest on my life, even another year. I've been feeling suicidal again because of this too and that scares me, I just want to be happy and healthy.

Anyway, my point for this post is to ask about what to do next. When I get some more levo next week I was thinking about upping my dose myself to 75mcg. I'm not waiting to see one of the g.ps at the surgery because they literally know nothing... I feel like I know a damn sight more than they do! I know increasing doses needs to be done gradually but I have already been on the 50 for a few weeks. I don't expect for it to do much or anything to be honest because of just how ill I feel. And so I also wanted to get advice about NDT and T3 because I feel I'll have to go down either of those routes. I don't know how to obtain these and have read that it's difficult to with and without a prescription. And then I wouldn't know where to start with dosage. Before doing it myself I'd like to see an endo and I am on the waiting list but I'm still waiting for an appointment and then that will take months to be seen even if they do offer one and so I need to go private - I cannot waste anymore time, this has gone on too long. I've already emailed ThyroidUK for the list of specialists but I really don't know where to start. Can any of you recommend a private endo or dr in western or functional medicine that actually know what they're talking about and how to treat patients according to symptoms and not just blood work. I know my adrenals are also a mess with all the years of stress and toxins my body has been subjected to and so someone who knows how to deal with that alongside the thyroid is needed as I know that the thyroid cannot function well when the adrenals are down. Has anyone seen Dr Barry Peatfield? I know he's getting on now but I read a few posts somewhere that he still sees people but doesn't travel, is this true? And even though he can't prescribe is it still worth seeing him for advice?

I know there's a fair few questions, if anyone can offer any advice and recommendations I'd be so grateful! I forgot to mention that I'm in Leeds so anywhere near this region would be better but I'm willing to travel anywhere to be honest!

Ali

See Barry peatfield if you can- he is amazing. Has clinics in Crawley. He is also very kind and worth every penny. There are solutions to your problems.

Also beware not all naturopaths treat adrenals! I’m fact some believe if you heal the thyroid your adrenals heal. Not the case always! Barry peatfield treats both and is a complete rarity. He does do something up north but think it’s very occasional.

Thanks for your reply Sapphirewish. I have his book 'Your Thyroid and how to keep it healthy', I've read about a third so far but it's a huge struggle with cognitive impairment because of this! Have you seen him yourself?

Yes I have. I also read his book but didn’t want to self treat. He is very good at what he does, he is in his eighties though so I would book soon before he retires if you want to see him. Good luck

Yes I read he's in his 80's, it's amazing he still sees people! I'll call Monday and see if I can get an appointment for asap as I'm very nervous about self-treating. Thanks!x

Definitely go. Levo didn’t help me. He believes in medication with supplements. No amount of supplements will give you a hormone you don’t make! Also he listens to you. Expensive for initial consultation but it’s less than half price for follow ups and he spent nearly 2 hours with me for initial consultation. Hope it works out for you, go and get your life back!

I will! I'll call Monday, thank you so much. I don't mind paying for help and advice from someone who actually knows how to treat people and who knows what they're talking about. If it gets me even 25% better it'll be worth it, I just want to work! x
