Prothyrid, Sanofi, has anyone tried this ?

Hello everyone.

I am still trying to optimise my thyroid replacement drug intake.

I am taking Tirosint now , for 3 months and am quite happy with it.

But , I allways add some Erfa thyroid to it, just 30 mcg , because I don´t seem to be happy without it.

But I have only a few douzand left, and the prices went up 5 times. So

I am afraid I can not afford them any more.

I did some more investigating , and found a drug in Germany called Prothyrid.

It´s a T4 -T3 mix, with 10 % T3. Has anyone else tried this ?

What is the difference between syntetic and natural hormons .

Could this compare to NTH.

I know pig hormons have a higher T4 T3 ratio, which could explain why I´m not well with it. Plus its not cheap.

The Prothyrid is 28 Euros for 100 in Germany, so this may be worth trying.

Thank you for your oppinion in advance ,

Babsi.

What is 30 mcg NDT in grains? 1 grain is 30 mg.

There shouldn't, actually, be any difference between synthetic and natural thyroid hormone. If there is, it's something indefinable. However, if you're contemplating adding a T4/T3 pill to your T3, you might just as well increase the T3 and add levo. Comes to the same thing.

I know pig hormons have a higher T4 T3 ratio, which could explain why I´m not well with it.

That shouldn't have anything to do with it. Most T3 comes from conversion, anyway. If you are taking T3 because of poor conversion - which I imagine you are - then having more T3 in NDT shouldn't be a problem. And, if it really were the problem, all you'd have to do to resolve it would to add in some more T4. :)

Hi greygoose, thank you for your answer.

I may have explained it bad.

I´m taking half a grain , 30mcg of erfa together with 125mcg T4 ,(Tirosint).

(A grain equals 60 mcg, as far as I know).

I´m thinking about switching to Prothyrid, because I can not afford Erfa any more.

I will just go ahead and try it.

If it does not do me good , I can still add T4, as you said.

Thank you well. :)

Yes, sorry, my mistake, 1 grain is 60 mg. Not mcg. :)
