Has anyone tried Pure Encapsulations cortisol Calm?

furcoatnoknickers profile image

Hello,

Has anyone has had any experience with Pure Encapsulations Cortisol Calm? I have read great things!

I have been trying to find a company in the UK that sells it so if anyone knows of where I could purchase here in the UK I'd be grateful if you could private message me.

Wishing all my fellow health seekers a happy, healthy, stress free Christmas. ;-)

l-theanine

other ingredients: vegetarian capsule (cellulose, water), ascorbyl palmitate

Not to be taken by pregnant or lactating women.

1 capsule in the morning and 1 capsule in the evening, with meals.

Well, looking at the ingredients, it doesn't seem all that great to me.

Vit D: well, first you need your vit D tested, to see if you need extra vit D.

Ashwagandha and Rodiola: adaptagens; supposed to even out hormones, but from what I've heard, Ashwagandha often reduces cortisol, whether you want it reduced or not; and rodiola can stimulate the thyroid, which isn't a good idea, either.

Magnolia bark: an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant. Nothing to do specifically with the adrenals.

l-theanine: an amino-acid; anxiety reduction, blood pressure control, and mood improvement? Nobody really knows.

But, all these things can be bought individually, should you decide you really need them. And it would work out cheaper in the end that the exorbitant price charged by Pure Encapsulations.

These multi-things are rarely a good idea. There's nothing magic about them, and always contain some stuff you really don't need, etc. etc. etc. They are just a huge fly-trap for the unwary, and rarely actually help anything. Work out what you actually need and take just what you need, not someone else's idea of what you could possibly need, and what they can charge you a small fortune for. :)

Greygoose, I really appreciate you taking the time to write this. I know you have an awful lot of knowledge and you have been invaluable to me in the past. ( You actually helped get me out of bed!) I am so desperate to get off sleeping tablets and have tried so many other methods. All vits optimal. Thyroid optimal. ( Apart from when it swings - which is all the time.) Something is off (antibody numbers way too high) and anxiety is ruling the roost. I'm Gluten free and eat clean ... what to do? Just got to keep trying ... :-)

If all your nutrients are optimal, I doubt you need this supplement.

I should think, if you suspect your adrenals are what is still holding you back, then the next step would be to get them tested. If you can't afford to get the 24 hour test done privately, then ask your doctor to do an early-morning cortisol. If not ideal, but if it low, that would at least give you a clue.

Adrenals need lots of vit C, plenty of B vits - are you taking a B complex? Even if your vit B12 and folate are optimal, you could still take a b complex for your adrenals - and salt. Also, protein, for breakfast, as soon as you rise. If that means you have to change the time of your thyroid hormone, then it will probably be worth doing so.

They also need plenty of sleep and rest. If your having to take sleeping pills to get enough sleep, then why not try CBD oil. It improved my sleep no end. Strange dreams to begin with, but I seem to have got past that. These things are definitely worth a try.

People are going to think I've got shares in the company, or something, I keep going on about it! lol But, I can assure you that I haven't. It's just that it's made such a difference to me that I want to share it. It would do you far more good than any of this multi-things.

Greygoose,

Have had adrenals tested - low DHEA was the culprit, but each time I take even a low dose, my adrenals go into crisis. I am taking CBD oil 250 prescribed to me by the same doc who has me on LDN - even the LDN is a struggle to take, but I am getting there slowly. I may ask for a stronger CBD oil. It seems the way to go for sure. Many many thanks :-)

Hello greygoose! Can you share how you taking CBD oil to get better sleep? Is it similar to coconut oil, Is it in capsul,or liquid?

Like usually , you are the best with advices!!!

Thank you for your sharing effort!

It's not in the least like coconut oil. :) The one I take is a brown liquid in a little bottle with a dropper. For optimal absorption, it should be dropped under the tongue, and held there for a few minutes. But, I cannot tolerate the taste, so I mix it into a paste with powdered turmeric and honey, and hold that under my tongue. Seems to work ok. :)

Than you , greygoose ! Thank you for detailed explanation , I will try to buy . What manufacturer ( company) you use.?

I was sleeping ok with DR Mercola’s Melatonin spray, but recently, I noticed ,that I waking up 3-4 times at night again.Possibly, it’s my Cortisol. All looks high! Disregard DHEA ! At my age this numbers,OK.

This is my new saliva test: DHEA. = 3.3. Range ( 2-23mg/ml)

Cortisol at 8 am. = 15.3 high. Range ( 3.7- 9.5 ng/ml)

Cortisol at 11 am= 2.7 Range ( 1.2- 3.0 ng/ml)

Cortisol at 5 pm = 1.5 Range ( 0.6-1.9 ng/ml)

Cortisol at 11 pm = 0.8. Range (0.4- 1.0ng/ml)

I tried adaptogens , still have palpitations . Reduced NDT from 1 grain to 1/2 grain and 25 mcg T3 split 2-3 times a day due to High RT3.-20.0 . Both meds taking by sublingual .

Thank you again to helping so many on forum ,Your advice always welcome ! Hope, you help me with some solution .

Always thankful,

Esther

Esther, I think you ought to copy and paste that all into a new post. I can't discuss it here, on someone else's thread. And, probably, no-one else will see it, now.

But, this is where I buy my CBD oil:

I’ve never taken this blend but I find ashwagandha good for gently increasing my energy (but it gives me a headache if I take it too often).

L-theanine is calming and works quickly without being sedative. I find the only side effect is that it reduces blood pressure. Good for people with high BP but mine is always borderline low so I can’t take this too often. I take a chewable form by NOW foods which includes inositol and choline (seems more effective than pure L-theanine as I’ve tried that too).

Liquorice I take in a complex (Rhodiola Complex by Solgar). I find that complex really helpful for stress management.

I don't doubt that all of these things can be helpful for some people. What I object to is putting them all in the same pill so that you are obliged to take them all whether you need/want them or not. And, if there is some benefit, you have no idea which ingredient is doing it for you - and vice versa. If you don't know how you are going to react to each of the ingredients - and you'll only find that out by testing each of them individually - then I think it's a very bad idea to start taking them all at once like that.

Liquorice has a number of contraindications, both conditions and drugs.

Thank you for your response. I am on ashwagandha and Rhodiola Complex and still seem to have anxiety, although I have had a very rough year with cancer coming back for the third time (Melanoma). Two full anesthetics - lost half my hair and had to have it cut off. Really suffer with low blood pressure too. I think more testing is needed - it just seems so never ending. I'll just have to keep the faith. :-)

Why do you think your cortisol is at fault? You could have high cortisol or low cortisol or a mixture at different times of day. You could even have Cushing's or Addison's Disease. And different solutions are required for all of those situations. But without testing you won't know what you are treating. Taking something to raise cortisol when its already high, or to lower cortisol when it is already low is a very bad idea.

I would suggest that you get a Regenerus adrenal saliva test :

regeneruslabs.com/shop/prod...

How to order :

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

When you've got the results you could post them in a new post and ask for feedback.

In the meantime, have you tried melatonin? It isn't available in the UK over the counter but you can easily buy it from Ebay or US Amazon.

I buy 3mg Puritan's Pride tablets, then I cut them into smaller pieces (they tend to crumble but I use the crumbs). I try to take 1mg or less. A bottle lasts me ages because I don't use them all the time. The temptation to take more is there, but too much gives me a headache, and tends to disturb my sleep pattern too much, so I stick with my very low dose bits.

humanbean,

It definitely feels like the cortisol goes and up and down throughout the day and yes, I was told that I was heading for Addison's disease - took DHEA but after a short while really suffered with anxiety. Something is a miss - I will have more testing. Thank you so much for this info. I will get some melatonin, tomorrow! :-) (I have taken note of the links.)
