L-Tyrosine 500mg

I went to see a nutrionist recently and she prescribed me with L-Tyrosine(free from amino acid) for my thyroid and to bring up my level of T4. I am currently on NDT tablets and am very dubious about starting these new tablets. She said it will help my hair to grow back as my hair is very thin.

I was wondering if any of you ladies on here have taken this supplement and have seen any changes.

Also I've been instructed to use it twice a day (two capsules), is this normal?

Thank you

How can L-Tyrosine be free from amino acid? It is an amino acid.

The one she prescribed says it's free from on the package?

Which one is that? Do you have a full name? Or even a link?

( greygoose has already written what I would have said in a reply. :-) )

Are you sure it doesn't say:

Free-Form Amino Acid ?

Yes sorry it is free form

It's a free (as in unbound) amino acid - no "from" in there. Specsavers ... the capsules may also be free from soy, etc but that something else entirely (although soy actually contains a lot of tyrosine, as does chicken and milk)

I think you meant free form

I have looked into using L-tyrosine & have done the same with iodine & iodine-containing supplements like kelp.I have come to the conclusion that i am best off avoiding them.

The training courses of those practising as nutritionists and other practitioners are not necessarily designed to understand the complexity of underactive thyroids or the implications of auto immune disease.

They sometimes appear to have gained a very superficial knowledge of thyroid issues.

My thoughts exactly.

Even though I was very dubious, 2 or 3 years ago I bought and took L-Tyrosine for a while (desperation measures). It gave me a cracking headache and a lighter wallet. I don't remember any good effects from it at all.

Where your product says it is "free from " does it mean it doesn't contain gluten or possibly lactose? Because an amino acid which is free from an amino acid sounds like a contradiction in terms!

I used to take it before I was actually hypo and it helped with energy, but did nothing for my hair and I still went on to become hypo.
