Is it possible to buy Wockhardt levothyroxine without a prescription?

I went to see a new GP last week to discuss my latest thyroid blood tests.

My results were as follows:

Serum free T4 level 18.5 pmol/L [10.0 - 20.0]

Serum TSH level 0.29 mu/L [0.5 - 4.4]

Below low reference limit

Serum free triiodothyronine level 5.0 pmol/L [3.5 - 6.5]

This GP was very approachable and agreed that, because I felt so much better after the latest small increase in levothyroxine, I could stay on the current dose. However, he did say he would have to run it by my previous GP😡.

As expected, I received a phone call yesterday to the effect that my previous GP is not happy. I have to arrange for a retesting of my thyroid asap and then make another appointment with him to discuss the results. I really wish I never had to see him again as it is impossible to argue with him and I am sure he will want to reduce my dose from 58.3 mcg to 50 mcg.

I am therefore wondering if I can buy more Wockhardt levothyroxine to add to the prescribed dose of need be. I didn't feel well on 50 mcg and, surprisingly, the tiny increase of 8.3 mcg made a real difference. Such a small amount to fight over but I'm really convinced that he will insist on a dose reduction.

What can I do other than buy some for myself? This is really stressing me out. If anyone can provide me with the name of a reliable supplier, I would be so grateful.

Best wishes to all

Caroline

Can you put on here results for 50 Levothyroxin dose, as you say hard to believe it would make much difference, but it can. How long were you on the extra 8.3 mcg after that?

Hi Judith,

Initially, I was prescribed 25 mcg October 2017, increased after six weeks to 37.5 mcg and then to 50 mcg after a further six weeks. Only TSH was tested after six weeks on 50 mcg (TSH 1.7 [0.5 - 4.4]). When the latest test showed TSH as being below range, the lab tested FT4 and FT3. Was on 58.3 mcg for six weeks prior to the test.

As you can see it has taken forever to get to this point. I really don't want to reduce my dose since I actually feel ok now. I still lack energy but the most trying symptoms (rib and chest pain, joint pains and a weird crawling sensation on my left hip, which I've had for 22 years and thought was a menopausal symptom!!!, have gone😄.

I've gone gluten free and have Hashimoto's (TPO > 1300).

Thank you so much for replying.

Best wishes

We are not permitted in the UK to purchase prescription medications over the counter. However, many source their own levothyroxine or any other thyroid hormones and those who have information will send you a private message as no info is permitted on the forum.

I will close your post just in case someone inadvertently states where to source and you will receive private messages if someone has info.

Most on this forum have recovered their health without the medical profession but with support of members. Most of whom have 'been there and done that'.

I am sure you know that all blood tests have to be at the earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between last dose of hormones and test and take afterewards.

Also make sure your B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate are optimal. They need to be in order for us to function better.

Thank you shaws. I am working on improving my ferritin level which is low but apparently i am not anaemic. The rest of my vitamin levels are optimal. I have also gone gluten-free and hope that this, together with an improvement in ferritin, will lead to an even better result from my 58.3 mcg levo!! I do feel so much better already on this relatively small dose.

I do have earliest possible testing after fasting and take my levo after the test.

Thank you so much for your reply.

Best wishes
