Help me understand my results please.

Hi All.

I posted a few weeks ago as I had been feeling unwell and had chased up results from a blood test with GP from back in Feb. These were

TSH 0.01 range 0.34-5.6

Free T4 12.9 range 7.7-15.1

Free T3 6.1 range 4.3-6.8

Since then I have been to an Endo and had bloods done. These are the results. I am waiting to see him in a few weeks

TSH 0.01 range 0.27-4.20

Free T4 34.69 range 12-22

Free T3 16.6 range 3.1-6.8

TP antibodies 46.5. Norm <60

Any suggestions how bad this is and what exactly this means?

What else did endocrinologist test?

You need TG antibodies tested as well as TPO antibodies to fully test for Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease)

And TSI or TRAb antibodies to test for Graves' disease

Hashimoto's is basically hypothyroid, but has temporary hyper swings (especially early on) and can look like Graves' disease (hyperthyroid)

It's important to get correct diagnosis

A ultrasound scan of thyroid can be useful too

Also need vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested too

Do you have any gut or digestive issues? Both Graves and Hashimoto's can benefit from strictly gluten free diet

Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first

Hi. I’m afraid those are the only results I’ve been sent. Thank you for this info x

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies. Plus very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

You would also need ideally TSI of TRab antibodies tested for Graves

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

Thank you. That’s lots of info. I’ll make sure to ask for more tests.
