Apologies in advance for the long winded post! - I've been following this forum for the last few weeks and have learnt more here than in the last 4 years of talking to GP's and an Endo. Feel now equipped / empowered to take charge of my thyroid health and not to necessarily leave it to the health professionals, so thank you!

You will see from my profile that i was diagnosed with Primary Hypothyroidism in 2014, it is only now that i realise looking back through letters from the Endo at the time to my GP that it states that i had tested positive for thyroid antibodies. Wasn't aware until this forum what this meant or that i probably had Hashimoto, recently confirmed via a thyroid check Ultravit.

TTHYROGLOBULIN ANTIBODY *224.000 IU/mL 0.00 -115.00

THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES*260 IU/mL 0.00 -34.00

TSH - 0.188 ( 0.27 - 4.20)

Free Thyroxine - 20.9 (12.00 - 22.00)

T4 - 108.0 (59.00 - 154)

T3 - 4.34 (3.10 - 6.80)

Active B12 261 (25.10 - 165)

Folate serum 3.8 (2.91 - 50.00)

25 OH Vitamin D 84 (50.00 - 200.00)

Ferritin 100 (13.00 - 150.00)

Questions: Symptoms extreme tiredness, pins and needles, muscle fatigue, brittle nails, unable to loose weight - Although have supressed TSH ( was taking Biotin as part of B complex at the time, hadn't realised until this forum that this may skew results) is there an issue with conversion, T3 or is this adequate?

Prior blood test with Endo confirmed low B12 though no treatment suggested, 200 ( 190 - 900)

started taking 5000 mcg, reduced to 1000mcg in February - how does this range compare to the Active B12 range above, comments from Dr suggests i decrease dosage further. What do people suggest, on the 5000 dosage my tiredness and pins and needles abated, reduction to 1000 and symptoms have returned. Results though suggest i am over medicated

Further comment that Folate was ok, but this looks low compared to the range quoted, is there an issue here,?

GP already diagnosed low Vit D3 and suggested a supplement of 1000iu which i have taken daily for 2 yrs. Medi check comments, bordering on insufficient and recommends supplementing with 400 - 800iu for 12 weeks, I'm already taking in excess of this.

Is this a case of my body not absorbing the vitamin due to Hashimoto's, have only just started to eliminate gluten after yrs of not realising the root cause of the disease.

From experience if i optimise D3 intake should this help with symptoms, T3 conversion?

And lastly is there anything further i can do to reduce thyroid antibodies?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

You'll know if been reading posts for a while, with Hashimoto's gluten intolerance is extremely common

So first step is to get GP to run coeliac blood test before going absolutely strictly gluten free

But don't be surprised that GP or endo never mention gut, gluten or low vitamins. Hashimoto's is very poorly understood

Persistent low vitamins with supplements suggests coeliac disease or gluten intolerance

gluten.org/resources/health...

When taking vitamin D, many of us need larger dose than normal. Better You vitamin D mouth spray is good as avoids poor gut function.

Magnesium supplements are recommended too

easy-immune-health.com/magn...

Also vitamin K2 Mk7

articles.mercola.com/sites/...

Also recommended to take good vitamin B complex, one with folate in. Not folic acid

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

endo.confex.com/endo/2016en...

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

Avoiding all soya including soya lecithin

Flouride free toothpaste too

If after all these steps, FT3 remains low (under 5) then, like many with Hashimoto's, you may need addition of small dose of T3

But getting everything else sorted first, then retest after 2-3 months
