Hello, forum,

I'd like to update my condition since I started taking Levothyrox 50 mcg on Dec. 17, 2017, based on the lab work on Dec 13, 2017, which indicated:

FT3 1.53 pg/mL (2.5 - 4.2) Previously, Oct 11, 2017 was 2.37pg/mL

FT4 1.5 ng/dL (0.93 - 1.70 Previously Oct 11, 2017 was 1.9 ng/dL

TSH US 3rd generation 8.52 UI/mL (0.27 - 4.2) Previously Nov. 2, 2017 was 4.66

AB (Anti-Thyroglobulin) < 10.00 UI/ml (<115 IU/ml)

Anti TPO < 10 UI/ml ( <34 IU/ml)

On Jan 22. 10, 2018, against my GP's advice, I augmented the dosage to 100 mcg. Despite this increased dosage my weight gain continues and my sleeping become almost nonexistent and I got period on Jan. 22, 2018 - Feb. 1, 2018, then again on Feb 5th, 2018 - Feb. 16, 2018, which both periods I had very heavy flow. Both my breast got bigger and feel very sore and tender. Since taking Levotrhyrox I gained 4 kgs. I successfully convinced my GP to change the med and he switched it to Thyrofix 100 by Uni-Pharma on Feb 10, 2018, and on Feb. 16, 2018, I am on 125 mcg but still refused in giving me Liothyronine and sent me to see an Endocrinologist instead while also prescribing me to take Thyroid ultrasound.

Here's the latest lab work dated Jan 27, 2018:

FT3 2.41 pg/mL (2.5 - 4.4)

FT4 1.33 ng/dL (0.93 -1.70)

TSH 3rd Generation 1.81 mUI/mL (0.27 - 4.2)

AB (Anti-thyroglobulin) 10UI (< 115 IU/mL)

TPO 13UI/mL (< 34 IU/mL)

Reverse T3 (standing up) 0,45 ng/ml (0.09 - 0.35)

0.69 nmol/l (0.14 - 0.54)

Ferritin 1.3 mcg/L (30.00 - 400.00)

Folates 19.4 nmol/L (8.83 - 60.8 nmol/L

Vit B12 389 (145 - 569)

Vit D Total (D2 + D3) 31.7 ng/ml (30 - 60 ng/ml

Hemoglobin 12.7 g/dL (11.7 - 16)

CRP <1 mg/l (< 5.0)

Iron 21.1 mcmol/L (6.6 - 26)

Reading the above info with my amateur eyes, I see that everything is improving but why I still feel like sh*t and the continued weight gain amongst other things? Any thoughts anybody? Your input is greatly appreciated! Thank you, all in advance.

Jacqueline

It can be a rather long windy rd to getting well. I havenever heard of this levofix before. Weight gain is a common side effect of levo and this forum did a survey regarding this a couple of years ago. Have you had you ferritin,folate,B12 and vitamin D tested as not having enough of these will inhibit thyroid medication from working. You may need some T3 (active thyroid hormone) but good luck in getting it prescribed.

You may want to pay to see a doctor privately. Thyroid uk admin have a list which you can find by emailing via website.

Hi Mandyjane, thank you for the reply! Thyrofix is new in France. If my memory serves me well, it's only been in the market since Jan. 1st, 2018 in response to problems many people encounter with the new formulation of Levothyrox (out Nov. 1st, 2017)

Yes, I had asked my GP to also give me the T3 when he prescribed me the Levothyrox back in December of last year but he declined in saying that the Levothyrox will put things in order.

I updated the info and included the elements you asked, Mandyjane. :)

I think you are not in UK?

Your vitamin D is much too low and needs supplementing to improve to at least 40ng/ml (that's 100nmol in UK units)

Your ferritin appears to be extremely low, if you have typed that correctly

Hello SLowDragon, I am in France.

I've been supplementing with vit. D3 10.000 Iu and vit. K2 200 mcg/day since Feb 2017. Yes, I notice that my vit. D range is more of in the bottom range. I did point out to my GP how low my ferritin was but he didn't see it as important and told me that instead, I should point it out to the Neurologist who has been working with me due to Neuropathy problems I have for years.

According to "STTP, Stop The Thyroid Madness" when ferritin is low yet the iron and hemoglobin are in the normal range that means that we got high heavy metal and an active MTHFR mutation. The STTP site helped me ask all the necessary blood work to be done so I have a lot more things tested than what I cited above.
