Warning over high T4 levels

Who to believe as they say?

According to all advice I have read here high T4 at the top of the range is not seen as problematic - almost encouraged when linked to appropriate TSH.

Very worrying indeed if this research is correct?

This article if true is actually quite a good argument for supplementing T3 since in that case a person can increase their thyroid medication with the addition of T3 and increase their sense of wellbeing while at the same time lowering their FT4 level which may be heart protective.

I don't think I've seen FT4 being linked to appropriate TSH. In fact, I think the argument I've seen on this forum is that TSH is pretty irrelevant in treated hypothyroid patients and rather FT3 and FT4 are the important measures of thyroid hormone. In fact what I've mainly read here seems to be to increase FT3 and by this means normalise FT4.

Not convincing me though we don't really no enough details. We read that TSH can be meaningless once on medication so that throws a bit of a spanner in the works and I cant visualise both Ft4and FT3 being high in the range as if FT3 is high then the body would ease off producing a lot of T4 as no point in providing even more T3! We see results of really high FT4's but generally it's with a low FT3 and when we treat the conversion issue then we find FT3 rises and FT4 falls back a little.

It seems like a bit of a scare tactic to sell his adrenal services.

And a big cause of adrenal stress is hypothyroidism.

I don't think his opinion is going to trigger any anxiety or sleeplessness for me.

Maybe a little heartburn :)
