Tiromel 25mg

I an one year post TT and RAI. Last year had complete med withdrawal in prep for RAI as Thyrogen not available through Surgeon. This Year found myself a good Endocrinologist who has stabilised all my ranges, including B and D vitamins, calcium etc yet I still feel tired and achy and struggle to lose weight. She has given me a prescription of 1 1/2 tablets of 25mg Tiromel to take as a replacement for my levothyroxine in prep for tracer dose and I only have to do 2 weeks without meds this Year which is so much better. I am still foggy, but at least I have some energy! I expect to go back on 100mg Levothyroxine after the scan if there are no problems, but I just wondered whether I could add in some Tiromel on my own just to get my energy levels up and try to lose a bit more weight on a low carb diet? I will have at least 50/60 tablets left over from the box of 100 she gave me but I don't know what a safe dose to take would be as a supplement to levothyroxine. I am English living in Turkey where I can buy most drugs over the counter. Nevertheless, the English side of me is apprehensive about self medicating. I don't know if it makes a difference but I am 63 and had Papilliary Cancer with no spread.

DeniseA,

Do you know what your thyroid results and ranges are on 100mcg Levothyroxine? If FT3 is low it will make a difference to add some T3 to it. How much will depend on what your FT3 level is.

My FT3 was 3.44 (range 2.3 to 3.99) on last bloods 6 weeks ago. Would it be better to post results when I get bloods done immediately before Tracer dose of RAI? Thanks for your help !

DeniseA,

Your FT3 is in the upper third of range so you may not gain much benefit from adding T3 to 150mcg Levothyroxine. If you decide to do so you will only be able to add a small dose say 1/4 tablet (6.25mcg) Tiromel otherwise FT3 will go over range.

Sorry Clutter. Brain fog completely ! I had to go look at the paperwork. I was on 125mg which gave me a T3 reading of 3.44. Dr felt my TSH a bit too low and T3 a bit high so reduced dose to 100mg a couple of months ago, although I felt well. She said not good for my heart and wants me on lowest dose possible. I do not have any heart issues Bp 131/84 . I expect to go back on 100mg after Tracer dose
