Radioactive iodine

Looking at the possibility of radioactive iodine for thyroid cancer as I’m not a good candidate for surgery. Has anyone on this forum had this treatment, and if so could you let me know the pros and cons. Many thanks.

hi everyone after been on Carbimazole 50 mg for 2 yrs my constant has recommended radioactive iodine treatment I’m really worried should I go for it or not has anyone else had this treatment and has it worked for them if yes what are the symptoms please. Thank you

Hi again everyone.I had the Radioactive Iodine treatment on the 1st of October. I was told I would have a sore throat /neck for a couple of days ! It's now the 18th October and I'm still in pain in those areas.It hurts to talk,swallow,yawn,cough etc.Is this the norm after this treatment.

Hi again to all of you...I am having Radioactive Iodine for my Hyperthyroidism with Multi nodular goitre in 3wks (1st of October).I have been told to stop my Carbimazole 2wks before. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what I should be aware of by stopping them? Thanks in advance 🌻

I had a benign adenoma and had radioactive iodine to shrink it. Few years later had thyroid removed. I'm just wondering why my TSH has gone so high and if any of you have any advice on whether it may be a good idea to see a thyroid specialist. Thanks

Ive Been given choice of Radioactive iodine or operation. But VERY little other information. Relying on Google. They don't even know which one has the shortest waiting list or approximately how long I'll be waiting as in months or years.

hi there - I had radioactive iodine to treat Graves over 5 years ago. At that time I would regularly experience tightness in my neck with mild pain ie thyroiditis.

As I do not have a functioning thyroid (due having Radioactive Iodine in January 2024) there seems to be little point in me taking supplements to support thyroid function.

Hi I’m Pippa 51yrs old & was wandering if anybody has had any issues with their kidneys following radioactive iodine treatment? Well I’m in a bit of a pickle & just come out of hospital because of the above!

Did the radioactive iodine and later on i was put on 100 levo, then 125, then 150, and finally 175 in order to keep my TSH supressed. During this perdiod that lasted around 6 months i felt like crap and gained 12kg of body weight.

Due to previous eye disease I have been advised i cannot have radioactive iodine, the nodule needs to be removed regardless (a-typical) and I have been told I cannot have a partial thyroid removal due to the risks of later replases and scar tissue from multiple operations.

Finally I can give you all an update.I've been to my Endocrinologist (1st time)and I am now on a 6 month waiting list for the Radioactive Iodine treatment. I then had my bone density scan.

I want to know if it is possible for the thyroid to regrow hyperthyroidism come back years after radioactive iodine hypothyroidism.

Have anyone suffered with SCM (sternocleidomastoid muscle) after radioactive iodine therapy? I am posting my blood results, and I'd appreciate your advices. So far, you have done magic!
