Recently diagnosed with Hyper Thyroid. Where to go?

Also, I infer from the leaflet that he's sent that his standard recommendation is Radioactive Iodine ablation which does not fill me with confidence. Can anyone recommend a good consultant to approach. I live in West Yorkshire.

liquid radioactive iodine therapy

hello. I’m booked in at Mount Vernon hospital on November 14th for RAI. I’m totally rubbish at swallowing tablets so they have agreed to give it to me as a liquid. I’m now getting anxious it may be a massive beaker full and May taste disgusting Has anyone else had it this way and if so what was

Thyroid Testing

I have been hypothyroid for 20 years (after having radioactive iodine treatment for Graves disease). Because of covid (lack of vials at NHS) I have been tested once in the last three years and my dosage has been unchanged for many years.

Statins and underactive thyroid

I've had an underactive thyroid after radioactive iodine treatment 20+ years ago. After a recent health check - no thyroid results - but cholesterol results are 'a cause for concern'. I'm seeing the nurse next week when I expect statins will be suggested.

Hypothyroidism and work patterns

Also I was told years ago at my GP surgery that I should not be working night shifts while on Levothyroxine (I’m on it for life as I had radioactive iodine treatment as originally I had hyperthyroidism when I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease.)

Radioactive iodine alternatives?

I am struggling with letting the Endo perform a radioactive iodine procedure to treat my Graves’ disease. The idea that my thyroid will be destroyed is unsettling. Has anyone had the procedure and has it helped. What is it like to have the procedure?

Family planning treatment advice

I don't know if it's best to have Radioactive Iodine treatment before hand or stick with medication, taking in to consideration the risks associated with each treatment. My thyroid levels at the moment are stable on 5mg carbamizole.

over medicated and breathless

At the time my personal circumstances meant I couldn’t have the recommended surgery or radioactive iodine so I chose to have carbimazole and beta blockers. Eventually it settled down and I didn’t need treatment but it came back a couple of times needing more carbimazole.

I want to get rid of this disease ASAP. How can I do? I'm really disappointed with my hyperthyroidism.

Because of the side effects of radioactive iodine, I'm afraid to treat it. Now I take Carbimazol vs Propanol. I can't go to hospital because of my country's conditions. I want to get rid of this disease ASAP.

Request for assistance in interpreting blood test when GP is satisfied but I am not, and still feel terrible...

I was diagnosed hypothyroid about twelve years ago and given radioactive iodine treatment (and little alternative - I knew very little then and was scared into it by talk of heart attacks, etc). Since then I have been on levthyroxine.

Radioactive iodine versus surgery.

What are your experiences of Radioactive Iodine or surgery for Graves’ disease. I am trying to decide which one to have.

Updated Thyroid levels and new Vitamin readings

I'm not having Radioactive Iodine as I already have poor saliva and it might make it worse. I have been on 150mg Levo up until 2/3 weeks ago when consultant suggested reducing to 125mg 2 or 3 days a week as I was experiencing some chest pains.

Family planning and treatment options (Graves)

I don't know if I should have permeant treatment (Radioactive Iodine (RAI) or surgery) or stick to ATD (antithyroid drugs) before hand. Hospital doctor/nurse have given me a standard RAI leaflet and explained some of the pros and cons of all the options.

Hyperthyroid and TED - Is Thyroidectomy the only answer?

Because of TED, I cannot take the Radioactive Iodine and my Endocrinologist and Thyroid specialist both have been trying hard lately to get Thyroidectomy.

1st post,seeking advice!

I have developed hypothyroidism post radioactive iodine treatment (Feb 24th).Unfortunately I only have some basic numbers re blood tests. I was started on 50mcg of Levothyroxine on 14th April after blood test showed TSH at 19.5 with free T4 at 13.

T3 only - Thyroid less.

Radioactive iodine followed straight after in a cell for 3 - 4 days and lucky I appear to be free of cancer. I have a resistance to T4 so have only ever taken T3 120 ug spread over the day.
