Thyroid Blood Test Results

Hi All,

I've received my thyroid blood test results back today from Medichecks. I have had the full one done with RT3 on. In June the Endocrinologist dropped Levo from 200 to 150 and introduced 12.5mcg of T3 and I've not seen him since, I was suppose to see him in August but appointment never came so when I rang they said he was off and I was on a waiting list I now go in October. My head is swaying. Can someone please explain the results for me, if anyone wants to inbox me or just here is fine. Thankyou. The letter included from medichecks Dr did say that B12, Folate, Vit D was normal but I'm sure someone will say different . I am supplementing and now I will supplement religiously everyday. I do take 5000iu of Vitamin D3 every other day and same with folate. I've only heard of people been low on iron and my result goes over the range not sure about that maybe someone can explain more. I've had Antibodies on previous test results and people ask me if I have Hashimotos. Neither Gp or Endo have never even mentioned the word. I am also perrimenopausal. About 2 weeks ago I didn't get out of bed Tues to Saturday because I felt so ill with palpitations, swaying head, dry mouth, just a fear feeling.

AngelaC66,

Endo reduced dose too much. 50mcg Levothyroxine was taken away and only replaced with T3 equivalent to 37.5mcg. You are very undermedicated to have TSH 4.26 and Free Thyroxine (FT4) below range and that will be why you were feeling so ill with palpitations.

The goal of Levothyroxine and Liothyronine is to restore the patient to euthyroid status. For most patients that will be when TSH is 0.4 - 1.0 with FT4 mid to upper range and FT3 in or near the upper third of range. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...

Thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibodies are positive for autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's). There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Levothyroxine treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.

Active B12 is very good. There is little likelihood of B12 deficiency when Active B12 is >35.

Folate is very low. Folate is optimal halfway through range. You need to increase the folic acid or methylfolate you are taking and take it daily.

VitD is replete 75-200. 70 is okay but around 100 is optimal. You will need to supplement to maintain levels throughout the winter. I would supplement 5,000iu D3 daily for 6 weeks to raise level and then reduce to 5,000iu alternate days until April when you should retest. Take vitD with the fattiest meal of the day to aid absorption and take it 4 hours away from Levothyroxine.

Ferritin can be high when there is inflammation or infection in the body. CRP is also an inflammation marker. I would show the results to your GP and ask for a full blood count to rule out infection.
