Does high Thyroglobulin definitely mean Hashimotos disease??

Hi I'm really confused and I keep reading different things about this.

Does a high result for Thyroglobulin definitively indicate Hashimotos disease?

The doctor said it's not hashimotos and that it was 'stress', as it's not super high. (I am having immense stress at this time so initially accepted that explanation)

I don't have a regular doctor, I live abroad, am uninsured at this point and have a very limited budget for tests, so I can't consult another doctor at this time.

TSH - 0.967 (range 0.47-4.64)

FT4 - 0.87 (range 0.71-1.85)

FT3 - 1.94 (range 1.45-3.45)

Anti TPO - <37 iu/ml (range 0-60.00)

- undetectable

Thyroglobulin - 7.58 (range 0 - 4.11)

Is that test Thyroglobulin or Thyroglobulin antibodies? Very different tests and I don't want to make any assumptions.

It says 'Thyroglobulin ab' on the test so presume it's antibodies yes.

Thyroglobulin antibodies are positive for autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's).

There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Levothyroxine treatment is for the low thyroid levels it eventually causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies and may delay progression to hypothyroidism.

Your thyroid levels don't yet indicate hypothyroidism but it would be sensible to have annual tests to keep an eye on them.

So I absolutely do have Hashimotos? I'm just confused as the doc said I didn't and that the level indicated on the test was just due to stress.

Is that possible to have Thyroglobulin antibodies due to stress?

OSK780,

High thyroid peroxidase or high thyroglobulin antibodies means you have autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's).

Antibodies are formed to fight off bacteria, virus or infection, not stress.

Thanks Clutter, I'll be sure to keep an eye on my TSH levels from now on then and stay gluten free, which is hard because I don't have any side effects if I do eat the stuff occasionally but this is further motivation to keep it up I s'pose!
