I’m a 28 year old female, I have been experiencing symptoms connected to hypothyroid for a few years. Requested a blood test from GP September 2020, (request made through practice website, no appointment due to covid and they did not ask about symptoms!) only tested TSH which they told me was borderline and may need further tests in time (did not give numbers). I have now paid for private fingerprick test and results came back today as ‘normal’ aside from TG antibodies which were high. I don’t know what to make of these results and I’m hoping for some clarity or suggestions. Thanks.
TSH 1.47 ml/UL (0.27-4.2)
T4 16.7 pmol/L (12-22)
T3 4.73 pmol/L (3.1-6.8)
TPO 12.6 kI/UL (0-34)
Thyroglobulin Antibodies 285 kI/UL (0-115)

Hi BodhiLeo I don't have any answers for you but I know the forum members will ask you to post the ranges provided by the lab for each test result, as these will be needed for them to interpret the result.
Is this the same test? I also have a high result, the Rheumatologist said it was not abnormal.
Component Your Value Standard RangeThyroid P'dase Ab 225 IU/mL <34 IU/mL
No it's not the same test. It's still a thyroid antibody test but is Thyroid Peroxide antibodies (TPO) whereas the OP's out of range test was Thyroglobulin antibodies (Tg).
If your Rheumatologist thinks that a result of 225 when the range is <34 then he needs a maths lesson (point out that < means "less than" so that result is very high over range). You might want to consider finding another Rheumatologist who has at least half a brain.
By the way, your raised TPO antibodies suggest autoimmune thyroid disease, known to patients as Hashimoto's.
