Ive been on levothyroxine 25mcg for 2 years. I saw a nutritionalist and she recommended Thyroid Care(30,000mcg /L-Trosine 400mg) Selenium 200 mcg and 50 mg Zinc, this i have taken for 6 mths. Lab results today showed a 0.01 tsh and 2.3 t4 free. The GP said discontinue RX , my question is : should i taper off med and should i discontinue or continue the supplements?

Thyroid Care that contains 30,000mcg iodine? I'm gobsmacked! Did your nutritionist test your iodine level before suggesting this? Did she also test zinc?

What are the reference ranges for your thyroid results?

Do you have positive thyroid antibodies - Hashimoto's?

Taking tyrosine is not a good idea, either. Both iodine and tyrosine can reduce your thyroid output. And it's very unlikely you are deficient in tyrosine. I'm afraid that nutritionists very rarely know anything about thyroid.

My cardiologist stated me on this medication. I am just compliant and take medication. I will post lab results tomorrow as office is closed. I had a rough patch 2yrs ago an had uncontrolled HTN due to stress at 52. No hospitalization but on 3 BP medications curently and a statin. Trying not to self treat . Im feeling fine weight is controlled and all other labs come within range.

Thyroid testing started in the early 70's ... so diagnosis was by symptoms before then. When cholesterol was raised they treated the thyroid before statins reared their ugly little heads.

Good levels of T3 are needed for a healthy heart. Along with good levels of Iron/Folate/B12 / Magnesium ....

Hope the earthquake has not affected you. The fact you have posted is a bit of reassurance.

Thank you for your concern - we are fine here and did not feel anything. Hubby read about it on his Greek Blog ( in English ! ) We have daily tremors - some bigger than others. When we really have nothing to do we take a peep at Eathquake Watch on-line :-)

I have a friend who constantly straightens my pictures - they are always on the move !
