Selenium recommendation please?

Can anyone recommend a good selenium tablet please ? I’ve just read the ingredients in the one I bought and it contains other vitamins that I’m not sure I should be taking. Also I’ve seen recommendations for Myoinositol to aid gut health, has anyone tried it and is this something members would advise taking? I want to do everything I can to bring down my extremely high antibodies. I’m going gluten free but I’ve read I need to improve gut health also.

I like Cytoplan selenium. It is a yeast bound one that is as well absorbed as selenium l-selenomethionine. It is a very small tablet with no odour (some selenium supplements can have an unpleasant odour). Avoid selenite and selenate forms, they aren't absorbed as well.

Thanks I will take a look the ones I have do smell terrible! What are your thoughts on Myoinositol ? Have you tried it?

Sorry, no experience of that.

I've read around 200mg of Selenium is recommended for hypo sufferers and to take the yeast free kind as hypo and Hashi pts can be susceptible to candida (yeast fungal overload) in the gut so avoiding yeast would help (that's a whole different topic). Also Myoinositol assists with lowering antibodies and worth trying. I do it intermittently only because I hate taking thousands of meds, supplements etc. I have found an Iodine and Iron free multivit and mineral from the States that is gluten, dairy, soya, egg, binders and coatings free and you take three instead of hundreds of individual expensive ones. If interested, it's called Vital Nutrients and available for shipping to the UK. I just take a bit extra Selenium as it doesn't have 200mg in it only 100mg. Also, Google Myoinositol and read the medical research evidence on it's success with Hashimoto's.

Hi thanks for the info I will certainly take a look. I found Myoinositol on google when I was looking for ways to bring down my antibodies which are currently really high. I also have iron overload so need to be careful to avoid it. 😜

Thanks will take a look! If you take it, I'd be interested to know if your antibodies significantly come down. I can't afford to do the private tests all the time at the moment, so I have to go on how I feel mostly. It'd be great to get hard evidence that it really works. I don't take it enough to notice yet.

Hiya, I’ve ordered it and will take for a month and then retest. I will be cutting gluten at the same time so won’t be sure which if any are beneficial. Although I don’t eat much gluten currently so I’m not confident cutting it completely can bring my levels down significantly. I will defo let you know how it goes.

Great, thanks! All the best!

200 mcg of Selenium (Selenomethionine) is the norm for people who are Hypo or with Hashimoto's with 400 mcg as the upper limit.

Taking 100 mcg/daily is also fine or as a maintenance dose.

I use Pure Encapsulations 200 mcg

Life Extensions Super Selenium Complex with Vitamin E (Selenium and Vitamin E work in synergy) also 200 mcg

Kirkman Labs and Biocare do 100 mcg

I tend to avoid recommending yeast-based supplements because they are not suitable for everyone. Undetected yeast allergy and yeast intolerance are extremely common and can be associated with an array of symptoms and problems, such as difficulty concentrating, mood disorders, ear infections, gastrointestinal issues, and more, which also resemble hypo symptoms and can add more confusion in recognising symptoms and treating them.

Yeast allergies or overgrowth may be related to a weakened immune system or diabetes mellitus.

Thank you for the response I will take a look at all the recommendations. Didn’t realise about yeast infections I need to avoid them that’s the last thing I want to get! Kindest regards 😀
