Hi

Just getting some of my blood results back as I've felt severe lack of energy & nausea for 2wks!

TSH 0.35. (0.30-4.40)

FT4 9.4 (9.0-19.1)

Also I'm thinking if my t4 is low then maybe my T3 is??? If so, I know someone who sells them πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ And debating weather to take them?? Any thoughts? Side effects if not prescribed?

Still awaiting full blood count, b12 & ferritin, my iron has never gone over 50 (range 5-300) my b12 has always been the lowest level but as it's not under, the doctors won't do anything!

I've been told by them that there's no point taking supplements (I was taking b12 jarrows) as with thyroid disease, your stomach cannot absorb by tablet, you would need a jab.... but obviously I can't because I'm still alive & im sure they would only allow it if I was on my death bed...which at times I feel I am...

Will update with those results probably Monday xx

Thank you x

"I've been told by them that there's no point taking supplements (I was taking b12 jarrows) as with thyroid disease, your stomach cannot absorb by tablet, you would need a jab"

Well that's a rather sweeping statement! If someone has an absorption problem then yes, supplements won't be absorbed properly, but to say because 'you have thyroid disease' your stomach can't absorb them is twaddle! And if they're talking purely about B12, and not supplements in general, then the B12 content in a tablet that is swallowed can be destroyed by stomach acid in some circumstances which is why it's always suggested to take sublingual methylcobalamin as it gets directly into the blood stream through the tiny blood vessels under the tongue.

If they're talking about supplements on general, I have had treated Hypothyroidism for over 40 years and I have managed, by supplementing, to raise my severely deficient Vit D to optimal, my bottom of range folate to top of range, my B12 of around 600 to 1000. I could also raise ferritin with iron tablets but had to abandon that because of worsening constipation so I managed to raise it by eating liver once a week instead.

With FT4 that low your FT3 is likely to be as well as there is very little T4 to convert. But you can't know if you have a conversion problem unless you have FT4 and FT3 tested at the same time.

To have such a low FT4 when TSH is so low is puzzling. How much Levo do you take? Also you are Hashi's aren't you, something else to complicate things.

Haha I wanted to say 'well the people on my forum tell me b12 is good' I will carry on with them as yes they are the ones that dissolve under the tongue.

Yes I'm hashis as well so gluten free I should be, I try as much as I can but have just competed in body building comp so had a few extra carbs but have been fine for 6 months.... it's only in the last 2 wks:(

I take 2 iron tabs with vit c but again it's never been high... I don't eat red meat & really cannot stomach that!!

I'm now on 100mcg levo, you think this needs to be upped? I need to suggest something to my doctor xx

Thankyou 😘😘

Lisas_Tired,

I've deleted my reply because I see you are taking 100mcg Levothyroxine. Your FT4 is unusually low. FT4 needs to be in the upper range to convert sufficient T3. I would order a private TSH, FT4 and FT3 test to check FT3 as it is unlikely FT3 will be tested in primary care and even in secondary care it may not be tested until TSH is suppressed <0.1. thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email enquiries@thyroiduk.org if you would like a copy of the Pulse article to show your GP.

You can't be a little bit pregnant or a little bit gluten-free. It's all or nothing. If you've been feeling unwell the past 2 weeks because you have been eating gluten then it may be worth avoiding it 100%.

If you have gut malabsorption B12 sublingual lozenges, nasal and mouth sprays or skin patches will over come malabsorption.

Have you considered posting on Pernicious Anemia forum about B12? If you have been told not to take B12 tablets as it needs to be injection is the Doctor going to arrange this then? I understand that B12 injections are given every three months.

What was your Folate result and Vitamin D? Were they tested?

Doubt your doctor would do anything about your Thyroid meds with a TSH result of .35. If you have Hypothyroid symptoms with a TSH so low surely this justifies a referal to the Endocrinologist?

ps

Hopefully then the Endocrinologist would do full bloods including FT3 and FT4. You could ask for the other nutrients to be tested as well also retest B12 or ask for the MMA test.

Also when I was ill last year I said about being referred & basically he said 'we don't refer if we can try & sort it out ourselves... in the meantime, we will keep adjusting your meds until they've kick in and u feel better...... Thanks Doc:((

My GP won't refer me to an Endocrinologist either - despite not being able to manage my thyroid issues! So frustrating.

Omg exactly!!! My doctors are such a nitemare & it's a battle but this 1 doctor tends to listen to listen to me so I want to speak 2 her next wk & suggest things. I had antibodies last year & was really unwell, I had to argue with the doctor to test my T3 (he really didn't want to as it's 'rare' to be out of levels) I posted my results here & yes my T3 wasn't great but he wouldn't do anything!!!

Why is everything such a struggle for us!!

Folate/vits etc were all done last year, I could always ask again for them to be done xx
