Hi just wondering if anyone has any tips on losing weight with hypothyroidism. I have tried weight watchers, slimming world and recently a low carb diet. On the whole I eat healthily but struggle to lose weight. At the start I lose a steady 1-2lbs a week but then unless I starve myself (which I know does more harm than good) I plateau and the weight loss stops. I am taking 150mgs of Levothyroxine daily and blood results as of oct last year were good. TSH 0.02 (0.35-5) T4 21.4 (11-23) T3 5.5 (3.9-6.8) I am not massively overweight but need to lose 2 stone. Would NDT would help? Is there something else I can do?
Any help or suggestions gratefully received 😊

I do SW but concentrate on SP but I have to be really strict. Loads of veg and salad, a little meat or fish. Concentrate on veg rather than fruit. I have lost nearly two stone but very slowly. It can be done, mind you looking at your post again, I am on NDT, topped up with a little T3 now and again. I think the T3 makes a difference
I have been doing SW and have had similar problems, find that exercise makes a big difference to my weight loss, high intensity better but few walks or whatever you can manage also helps
I have found it a struggle. I'm on NDT and had no weight loss. Have actually gained a few pounds compared to when in Levo. However, the fact that my pain and dry skin has gone is a huge bonus. I still do a high protein low carb eating regime to stay the same weight. It's probably due to not eating enough.
I have been able to lose a lot of weight but only since my levels have been in the upper range. I am using a food diary and a phone app. I asked about T3 but not prescribed here.
Thank you all for your replies. I am trying to get out walking more and have just started a pilates class once a week. I will keep persevering and speak to my doctor if I don't get anywhere. I will download an app and keep a food diary too. Maybe you're right wishingwell about not eating enough but I do worry about increasing my intake as I'm worried I'll put on more weight but I'll give it a go for a couple of weeks and see what happens ☺
I was the same as you. Lost some weight but then it seemed my body got accustomed to any new regime and weight returned. I only finally lost weight once I got my meds right. With advice on here I got my vitamins balanced and took adrenal support and used T3/T4 combination. I now find walking works best for me as an exercise as high impact routines seem to have the opposite effect to what I expect.
Thanks for your reply veecaa. I'm going to sign up to the NHS 12 week diet, and write a food diary. If this doesn't work I'll show it to my GP and ask about trying T3/T4 combination but as my bloods are in a good place I'm not sure she'll go for it. She does listen to me and has worked with me in the past to get me where I am so she might surprise me.
I'm really no expert and although T3 worked for me it may not be the right thing for you. There is the added problem that T3 is less supported due to cost. What seems to be important is getting your blood results optimal rather than just getting them within range. I'm sure the advice from the experts on here will help you with that. It's good that you are not just accepting the situation and are trying to be the best you can be.
