Hi, I have been trying this diet plan for the past 6 weeks, since 26 Sep 2022 and am happy to report that I have lost 5kgs to date.
Basically, I watch my macros on a ratio of 2 servings veggies, 1 serving protein and 0.5 serving of carbs every meal. I eat 3 meals per day every 4 hours. Then I leave 12 - 14 hours between my last and first meal i.e. I finish my dinner around 6.30pm and will eat breakfast at 8am the following day. The principle is that you should prevent insulin spike caused by sugar intake or frequent meals so that your body can start to burn fat. In the event that you need to eat something in between meals, try to take a small amount of fats (i.e. quarter of an avocado, some goat cheese, 7-8 nuts) as it would not cause your insulin levels to rise.
For my case, my hypothyroidism has been more or less controlled using 0.5 grain NDT and 5mg T3. However, I did not lose all the weight even after my labs were in range. I realised now that to lose weight, it is important to manage our insulin and blood sugar levels, which also impact our thyroid function. In general, most of us thyroid patients would have some endocrine issues in one form of another (diabetes, hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia) on top of our thyroid issues, hence it is important to fix that in conjunction.
For my case, I had hypoglycemia which always caused me to have an insatiable hunger void despite having ate a full meal. It was a blood sugar roller coaster caused by the carbo I ate to curb my cravings. I am happy to say this has stopped with the new diet.
Just sharing what worked for me. I leave you some video links here explaining more for reference. Although it mentioned hypoglycemia, it explains the concept behind. Wishing all the very best in your health journey.
Well done! I've been struggling to lose weight, although it hasn't helped that when depressed, I've binged. However, since December, I've been prescribed WW by my GP to help me and nothing, on the scales. I've increased my water consumption, walking up to 10,000 steps daily (or averages to that over the course of a week), sleeping better and eating only when hungry, stopping when full. In fact, I've also incorporated IF but can't seem to shift the weight. My clothes fit a little better but WW are all about numbers on the scale and I feel like such a loser but not the kind they want to see. I'm definitely showing up in a more positive way and I love the fact that I've not binged once, although I've overeaten twice but nothing like before and I've tracked it all and reflected upon what was going on at the time. (so proud of myself for these changes) I've been told that I'm in menopause but nothing has been done if that is the case; I'm not sure I believe it personally I think my thyroid needs to be checked and I've gone with MediChecks to see if the results are any different to what the doctors tell me. My appointment with them is next week and I recently had blood tests with the GP for the same plus some other bits (diabetes, liver, cholesterol...)
I am determined to get this weight off and keep it off so I can enjoy the fast approach to 50 and beyond but this slow drawl is nipping away at the motivation. I'm still hopeful though because giving up, is not an option! I am hypothyroid by the way.
