Blood Tests Results and Supplementing.

I'm 49 and have had Hashimoto's UAT for just over 5 years now. Dr called and left a message to say I was now Hyperthyroid. Hmmm I've been taking 3 grains NDT for over a year now and have 6-8 weekly blood tests. I believe that my meds just need reducing slightly and I've told him on several occasions that NDT suppresses the TSH. Should I decrease by half a grain or a whole grain?

Also my B12 and Folate have always been a bit of a problem and the Dr's weren't very forthcoming when my levels were low, B12 was 182 at it's lowest and Folate Was 3.4 just over a year ago. I supplemented for 6mths and approx 6 mths ago I got retested and my B12 had gone up to 660 and Folate was >25. I stopped supplementing and they have started to plummet again. Should I start supplementing again or wait for them to go lower and try and get to the bottom of things?

Anyway these are my results that I got today.

TSH 0.02 mu/l ( 0.34-5.6)

FT3 6.5pmol/l (3.8-6.00)

FT4 11.8pmol/l (7.9-20.0)

Ferritin 42 (11-307)

Folate 4.2 (<3)

Vit B12 338 (120.00-625.00)

I would be very grateful for any help or advice.

AngelHarley, your GP has a peculiar idea of what hyper is. Your TSH is suppressed, not surprising, FT4 is low in range due to T3 in NDT and, FT3 is a wee bit over range. I think reducing by a quarter grain will be sufficient.

Ferritin is low, halfway through range is optimal. Supplement iron and take 500mg-1,000mg vitamin C with each tablet to aid absorption and minimise constipation. Retest in 6 months. If you don't tolerate iron healthunlocked.com/thyroidu....

B12 is optimal 1,000 and folate around 10-14. Supplement 1,000mcg methylcobalamin sublingual lozenges, spray or patches and take a B Complex vitamin which has the RDA folic acid to improve folate and keep the other B vits balanced.

Not what you're looking for?
