Hi all,

I previously posted here when first diagnosed with hashimotos in May '15 my results were:

Tsh - 42 (0.3 5.5)

T4 - 4.8 (12-22)

T3-2.9 (3.1-6.8)

Peroxidase antibodies : 110 (0-34)

Docs started me on 100mg levothyroxine. After a couple of weeks I felt better, but then felt I dipped and have no idea where I've been last couple of weeks!

Results today are:

Tsh-0.26 (0.3-5.5)

T4-23.3 (12-22)

Peroxidase antibodies: 149.4 (0-34)

B12-257 (191-663)

Folate - 15.2 (4.6-18.7)

Vit D - 44.33 (50+)

Docs have decreased levothyroxine to 75mg and said blood test

In two months. I've been off work for five weeks now and thought I'd be able to go back next week but I just feel so terrible. Boss visiting me today and she's lovely but I just don't know how to or don't have the energy to explain!

Any explanation of what's happening to my body and mind would be really, really appreciated as it seems my whole life has been stolen by thyroid problems ....and I've got thrush!!(can't sit down or stand up at moment...trying to see funny side of it!)

Denise133, Your June bloods are good, it's a pity your GP felt dose had to be reduced. Read Dr. Toft's comments about suppressed TSH and over range FT4 in Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org.uk if it would be useful to have the full Pulse article to show your GP.

Symptoms can lag behind good biochemistry by a couple of months so you should see improvement in the next few weeks. If you have enough Levothyroxine you could try 100mcg/75mcg on alternate days.

Antibodies have risen which indicates you have been having a Hashi attack on your thyroid and this is probably making you feel unwell. Gluten-free diet helps many members to reduce Hashi flares and antibodies.

B12 is low, 1,000 is optimal. Supplement 5,000mcg daily for 8 weeks and then reduce to 2-3,000mcg daily. Take a B Complex to keep the other B vits balanced. Your folate is good.

VitD is also low, 75-200 is optimally replete. Supplement 5,000iu daily for 4-6 weeks and then reduce to 5,000iu alternate days. Take vitD 4 hours away from Levothyroxine.

Ask your GP to test ferritin. Low ferritin is common in hypothyroid patients and can cause musculoskeltal pain, fatigue, breathlessness and low mood similar to hypothyroidism.

Explain that thyroid is the body's master gland regulating metabolism and at the moment your metabolism is runnning very slow which causes exhaustion, poor sleep, brain fog and loss of concentration, musculoskeletal pain, breathlessness, palpitations, inability to regulate temperature and susceptibility to infection ie UTIs and thrush.

Thanks Clutter. Sorry for delay in reply but again, feel awful. It now hurts to swallow, feel like my neck is swollen & can't bear to touch it. Not sure if I shouldI speak to doc as not had this before, or just wait for it to settle.

First thing GP should have done before reducing your thyroid hormones is to see to your low vitamin D and B12.

I would ask him to do an intrinsic test on your B12 to confirm you don't have pernicious anaemia.

If you don't have P.A. you'll have to buy B12 methylcobalamin, either sublingual or spray. Amazon has a stock and Thyroiduk get a small increment of sales. Don't get cyanocobalamin B12. We cannot overdose of B12 as excess is excreted. Deficiencies of both can cause unpleasant symptoms they hormones rather than vitamins. Your Vitamin D (supplement with D3) to bring it between 50-80.

Clutter and shaws have given good advice. Get your vitamin levels up. The TPO antibodies won't be helping. I speak from personal experience and managed to get TPO almost to zero by going gluten free and eventually lacto free. NHS doesn't know what to do with you when you have antibodies! Hope you begin to improve.
