The vast majority of people with Hashimotos and an underactive thyroid do well on Levothyroxine ali2341, but it doesn’t agree with everyone. There are other options you may wish to explore at some point, but it is not advised to simply stop Levothyroxine.
We advise that folate, ferritin, B12 and vit D are optimised to support thyroid health. Have you had these key vitamin levels tested?
what are the other options apart from adding t3 , also my tsh when i first went on meds was 4.8 i had tpo over1200 tho, it has come down but i just want to quit everything
Your other options include what Buddy mentioned above:
- folate, ferritin, B12 and vit D
These need to be optimal, not just in range. Please share your results and ranges.
You have Hashis. You will need thyroid hormone replacement for life. Not recommended at all to go off it without looking first at the 4 virus/minerals listed above first, and then choosing a T4/T3 alternative to the Levo.
Curious, are you fasting again? 10 months ago you were struggling and it was suggested lack of carbs might affect your T4/3 conversion. I have been doing intermittent fasting( 16 hrs x5 days, 13 hrs x2 days) for nearly a year without problems despite being both diabetic ( type 3c) and hypothyroid , but then I do take T3 as well as levo. as was always a very poor converter. Have you had your blood glucose /HbA1c tested, I found that change in one hormone levels had a knock on affect with others….
i can fast better now than last year i eat balanced diet, but im just going to sop taking levo and see what happens i will monitor my condtion and see if hormones stay in range
giving up the levo completely seems rather extreme…I know some people feel better for a few months then start to feel worse, back to square one. I know from experience that once one of my hormones goes out of kilter there is a knock on effect with others…. A year ago there were suggestions your adrenals might be out or/ and blood sugar … did you get your cortisol and blood glucose/HbA1c tested ?
Yes everything is ok, apart from tpo i have stopped taking levo for a few days now will see how i feel and keep an eye on my tpo if top stays the same then i wont need to take levo
Just to reiterate, your positive antibody tests confirm autoimmune cause to your underactive thyroid. Therefore, if you stop taking Levo, you might feel “better” for a short time, but it won’t be long before your Ts drop to dangerous levels.
If you are going to try it out, which again, no one would support, but if you are please be vigilant with symptoms, re-testing, and watching your Free Ts.
