I have read that the ranges for children are different. Perhaps you need to compare her results with those. Will have a look to see if I can find the link....

This is an excerpt from one of the links Marz quoted above and the link is below the excerpt:-

Of interest, yes. But you still need to obtain the appropriate paediatric reference ranges for the tests done from the laboratory that did the tests. Many (no idea if it is just some, or all) NHS laboratories do publish their current paediatric reference ranges on-line, But failing that, ask. And absolutely insist on getting the right ranges. Too many people are totally unaware that such special ranges exist.

The ranges I put down are what I got from the sheet of the blood tests

Thank you. Yes, I do see the ranges you have put down.

According to the ranges stated, your daughter is very deficient in T4 as well as T3. Her TSH was extremely high and your daughter should have a blood test about every 4 to 6 weeks with an increase in medication until her TSH reaches around 1. Some doctors believe it's o.k. to keep our TSH within the normal range but that doesn't always make us feel well. Many doctors don't know the clinical symptoms either and rely only on the TSH.

When your daughter has her next blood test she shouldn't take levothyroxine before the test which should be as early as possible. Levothyroxine should be taken first thing with a glass of water and wait for approx 1 hour before eating. If this is a problem she can take it at bedtime, not having eaten for 2 hours before. If she does take it at bedtime, then you miss this dose if blood test is next morning. She can take the dose after and also take the night dose as usual.

Ask doctor to also check her Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate levels are we are usually deficient.

She must be feeling quite awful with a TSH so high.

I hope she feels better soon and GP doesn't keep her TSH level too high, i.e. above 2.

Yes she is feeling pretty lethargic and fed up.

She is back at endocrine tomorrow for an ultrasound scan and bloods so I'm guessing it's best not to give her tablets in the morning

We had bloods done and they were all abnormal

Maybe, just in case they do another blood test. In that case she can take meds leaving 2 hours each side of eating. Food can interfere with the uptake of levo.

I hope everything goes well.

I think she's going to need much more than 50mcg. Hopefully the doctor's said to test again in 4 weeks?

Her levels are very low, I hope the increased dose improves things - I have just gone up to 50mcg from 25 this week too - felt a bit jittery & shaky at first but levelled off now.

Make sure she's had iron ferritin folate & B12 and vit D tested (I assume these aid thyroid function as they do adults) - but the ranges/dose may be different. A good childrens' Vit D & multi vit supplement should help (take well away from Levo 'tho) J :D (my Dad had too much growth hormone as pituitary problem).
