People please tell me that hairloss with autoimmune thyroid antibodies stops????? my hair is getting thinner and thinner and appears to be at an all time high even though my TSH is now at 3? Is there anything i can do to stop it?

Thanks for you reply cinnamon_girl

Literally just. It was 25 range is 20-250 - but endo has put me on iron tablets - 3 a day but as of yesterday i have to drop to x1 daily as they were making me very sick?

in reply toNatalie286

There's your answer Natalie! It's probably a case of building up slowly, did your GP mention about when you should be tested again?

No :-( Cinnamon_girl but I'm seeing my endo again 3rd Jan so I'll be sure to get the tests booked - fingers crossed thats it. I used to have such think hair and its worse than ever! Guessing there's a lag too on hairloss? xx

Natalie - I'm not sure how long needs to be left between tests for iron deficiency, presumably around 6 - 8 weeks.

I can sympathise with hair loss and there's plenty of threads on it. Different people have found different products have helped. I use Nioxin but it took at least 6 months to reduce the shedding.

Oh i've not heard of that? Will go and google :-) thanks. I have though about rodial and maybe some biotin - both I heard people talk about - must get on it x

You might need to find some iron tablets that don't make you feel sick. That ferritin level is very low. What did the doctor prescribe for you?

I didn't even realise there are more than one tablet? But on Ferrous Sulphate Jazzw. Have been on x2 a day now for 3 weeks and I was fine at first but now it's like morning sickness all over again - minus the baby belly - and x2 a day! Have just cut down to x1 tablet for the last few days and that seems fine so I was thinking x1 tablet one day and maybe x2 the next? Thanks for your help Jazzw and if you can believe it.....my doc said my iron/ ferratin was normal!!!! endo who said toooo low needs to be at 70 really :-)

Gotta love that word "normal". :)

Lots of folk find they can take Spatone without feeling sick, though it is a weaker form of iron supplement. You might have to buy it yourself though - I don't know if it's possible to get it prescribed. Floradix also gets mentioned a lot.

Others here may have some good suggestions if you post "what iron supplements do you take?" as a separate question.

I take Spatone ( Boots & it's often buy 2 get one free), it was recomended by Dr P and has never caused nausea or stomach problems. I was told to dilute it slightly & take with a soluble Vit C. Best wishes x

Halifaxlass, did the Spatone help raise your ferritin? As in one packet there's only 5mg of elemental iron. A really tiny amount. Even though it says it's absorbed better I would think you need loads of it. Maybe Spatone is something you can try and use to maintain iron levels once they are up.

I've used nioxin for over a year. I was unsure whether it was working. I know now it isn't. As my hair loss has started again because of low iron again

Although your TSH level of 3 might be considered to be in range, it is still quite high in my opinion and you might want to consider uping your thyroid meds a bit?
