It would definitely help but it may not be the only reason. Have you ever had your ferritin levels checked? There's a known link between low iron and hair loss.
Hi LilyMay, not sure if i have had ferritin test. I have had a full blood panel done a few mths ago and all was normal. I cant recall seeing ferritin on the list. Im sure my doc will roll his eyes if i ask for another test, he already thinks im nuts lol. Can i buy supplements myself?
Your B12 should be towards the upper end, not the lower end, of 'normal'. You can supplement and sublingual will go direct into your bloodstream. You must use methylcobalamin and not cyanocobalamin.
This is another product which I myself have only just started taking. It has good reviews and I read previously it is helpful in alopecia areata. It is called Biotin and mine came from USA.
If it's of help to you, I have just bought some B12 from Natures Best and I went through Quidco to buy them, it's 10% cashback for a first order and 5% after that.
They actually sell both types so if you do go to them make sure you get the right one.
My GP has just ordered a test for zinc because of my hair loss - showing him my Facebook photo of only 2.5 yrs ago prompted that! Have you been tested?
I've had alopecia (hair loss) all my life since I was 11, and it's closely related to zinc levels. The nutritionist I saw told me that people with blood group A have problems absorbing zinc, but I don't know if that is backed up in the scientific literature. Now I've been diagnosed with hyppothyroidism I'm going to ask for a zinc test ( as well as B12, folate etc).
Thank you - it was tough at times, I have to admit. However it was almost totally fixed in my 20s by diet with the help of a private alternative nutritionist. Having seen what it did to me, I would believe ANYTHING of the power of diet on your body - I was transformed, not just my hair. Unfortunately the dry, lifeless hair and hair loss of my hypothyroidism 20 years later I put down to alopecia, delaying my diagnosis, I think - hair loss in almost anyone else would be a serious symptom, for me, it was just here we go again...
