Anyone getting hairloss and thinning due to Hyperthyroidism?

I've got lots of the symptoms and this week find myself with yet a new one - my hair is coming out lots and is getting thinner. I did have this when I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago but then went onto HRT and then it was fine, in fact even thicker...... any thoughts....

Levo causes hair loss, if I have to take 2 x 50mcg tablets instead of one single 100mcg one my hair loss gets worse. Low iron can also cause hair loss.

Hi, whats levo? sorry im knew here and haven't been officially diagnosed, as you noticed. is that a drug for Hyper? They checked me for anemia, so that would be iron level wouldn't it? that was ok? x

Sorry didn't read the HYPER bit properly - levo is short for levothyroxine which is what most (but not all) HYPOthyroid people take so we get a double dose of the hair loss thing. You say you had your iron levels checked and they were o.k. but have you seen your levels or got a print out of them. I'm not saying anyone would lie to you but what GP's say is o.k. can be anything but o.k. for a thyroid patient. Start asking for copies of ALL blood test results so you can check your own progress and double check what your GP is saying is correct.

I haven't been diagnosed with hyper. I just got all my results back today she tested me for because of all my symptoms - which to me, scream out thyroid problems! plus the family history, incl my mum (had hers removed!). When I mentioned to the Dr that I knew someone who had bad thyroiud problems but her test always showed normal, she said that Is rare, I don't know anybody who that's happened to, but I can repeat them just in case in 3 months..... im gonna get printouts x

Good for you - and keep them in a folder, you may not need them for years (fingers crossed) but then again you might.

Hello Joanne

There are so many symptoms...and it's very hard to figure out what's really going on...

There's a process and symptom checkers on wilsonhealth360.com that you could try out.

You'll get reports back by email. It's useful because sometimes you can have other things going on as well like vitamin or mineral deficiencies.

I'm (well almost was now...) hypothyroid but after 9 months I've disentangled a whole load of other things - adrenals, liver, sex hormones, digestion and fixed them one by one. Result is my thyroid resolving. May not work for everyone... but it's a place to start. Good luck.

Just done the symptom checker and it came out the highest was for over and under active thyroid and also quite high for diabetes.... at least it was low for stress as I did think it could be that (had some relationship probs lately, but don't feel overly stressed tbh) but then again, stress wouldn't cause sweating!! x

Thanks. Also, saw a diff GP today. I asked is she could get my T3 and T4 done, she said she will try as the lab don't like to do them unless your TSH is abnormal! but she is gonna try - its all down to COST she said. terrible. I asked if there was another BT she thought I may need ie antiboides and B12 (as suggested on this site) and she said, YES, I will do , I'm so chuffed she took me seriously and listened!! I gave her my list of symptoms too this time. I didn't ask for all my results to be printed yet, felt a bit rude just gonna see what happens with these results first.
