How to avoid an adrenal crash, I know there's one around the corner.....

I'm hypothyroid (well medicated) and have poor adrenal function. Although I've been much better over the last few months, I tend to crash a little while after stressful events. I'm in the midst of a particularly stressful time at the moment, and although I'm coping, I know I will pay for it in the next couple of weeks. I'm not particularly minded to increase nutri adrenal as I generally feel ok at the moment. I take nutri adrenal, 7 keto dhea, b vits, vit c, magnesium and 5HTP. Maybe I just need to wait it out, but any suggestions would be welcome.

Nurture yourself, take as much time out for yourself as you can. Rest as much as you can. Relaxation and meditation - if you're new to meditation there are a lot of free relaxation meditations on youtube. Schedule some pampering. Just generally, be kind, supportive, and loving of yourself. And good luck with everything.

I have a similar experience if I get a virus or after a very busy time. I am going through that just now. I don't vary my medication or it introduces additional changes for my body to cope with. I work at getting better as the best route.

Me too, trying to recover from a crash, being kind to myself, having counselling, avoiding stress people including certain family members, have upped my vitamins and eating loads veggies and fresh foods, listening and practising Mindfulness meditation, it is a slow process but anything not to go back to that dreadful feeling of total exhaustion.

Oh forgot to mention the importance of getting to bed at 10pm when melatonin kicks in, if you stay up and miss this slot you can get a second wind at have a dreadful night's sleep, this is advice by Dr.Lam. I do stir to pay a penny but seem to go back to sleep again. Have also been rubbing in Magnesium oil when I go to bed (wont tell you where!) that also seems to help.

I'm also hypo, on T4. Like you, when stressed I can have an energy crash which takes a week or so to improve. Decided it's to do with poor absorbtion at that time as stress for me can lead to IBS and diarrhea. I've recently cut out gluten which has calmed down my digestive system hugely. Just a thought which might help.

I now always increase my adrenal support - either Adrenal Rebuilder of bio-identical hydrocortisone when I am particularly stressed or have a illness.

Like you, I felt "generally OK" a year ago and reduced my supplementation. Some time afterwards i had gastro-enteritis during a very stressful period. My adrenals couldn't cope and I had a major crash - it took months for me to recover. Dr P recommended that I always support the adrenals and up the dose under stressful conditions.

In addition to this I agree with the other posts - get plenty of sleep, relaxation and good nutrition.
