I just wondered if anyone knows of an Adrenal Cortex I could use. I've been using Nutri Adrenal Complex for a long time now and have felt anxious and jittery, but thought it was just me.
Recently I had a bad chest infection and was hospitalised, they gave me Prednsiolone 30mg a day for 5 days, but ended up having 3 courses. I have been taking Prednisolone 5mg a day for quite a while now, prescribed by Dr P. When taking the 30mg daily I stopped the Nutri Adrenal Complex, all my jitters and anxiety went, I felt so chilled out and back to my normal non anxious self.
The problem is I need help with my adrenals and went straight back to the Nutri Ad Comp when I stopped the steroids, apart from my 5mg. The jittering and anxiousness has returned.
I could really do with some Ad Cortex, but saw some info about the Thorne Ad Cortex, saying that there are no hormones in it, so what's the point.
Is there another Adrenal Cortex or something else I could take to replace the Nutri Ad Comp?
Any advice or help would be really appreciated.
Thanks TMJ

Just to let you know that my daughter's Endo cautioned against adrenal/cortisol supplements as he said they can cause permanent suppression of the adrenals. Maybe something else you could raise with Thorne.
I have been worried about the Prednisolone for some time and wish I'd never taken it. I've tried to come off it, but I feel so ill, I wish I could find a dr that could help me to wean off, but it's difficult.
There is supposedly NO hormones in any glandular products as advised on the packet (or only minute proportions so are not considered as replacement.)
Members will dispute this as many have found glandulars extremely powerful and capable of wonderfully positive as well as adverse effects. Adrenal glandulars are given to support & restore adrenal function and contain adrenal cell RNA & DNA and concentrated nutrients//enzymes.
The adrenal glands are divided into two parts: outer glands (adrenal cortex) and inner glands (adrenal medulla).
Nutri Adrenal uses the whole adrenal gland and so contains adrenaline. It is thought that many patients with adrenal issues may be running on adrenaline as long standing high cortisol levels start to run low. Adding extra adrenaline can bring the jitters and feelings of anxiety.
The adrenal cortex only contains corticosteroids so there is no adrenaline. Many members have done well on Thorne Adrenal Cortex.
I supplement Dr Wilsons Adrenal Rebuilder which is a mix of Gonad, Adrenal Cortex, Hypothalamus and Anterior Pituitary. I have suffered adrenal fatigue and this is the only glandular I have been able to tolerate.
I too use Dr.Wilsons Adrenal Re builder with Armour and think it suits me well. I tend to take on and off, but find it gives me that boost of strength and stamina. It also appears to speed up my digestive process which is slow.
That sounds good Katelou, I need a boost like that, so I think I'm going to try it. Trouble is, it all costs money trying to find something that suits you, but it's worth it if it works. Fingers crossed.
Yes, having this condition costs in many ways, but ones health is ones wealth. I think a large pot of Dr.Wilsons AR costs about GBP 66 for 90 pills, I get it from Nutri Links. Make sure you get the freshest stock, ask them for this, because it has a shelf life.
Thank you radd for all the information you've given me. I didn't know about the Wilsons Adrenal Rebuilder, it sounds like a good product, I'll have a look at it, I'll try anything. I just want to come off the steroids and feel well.
i am getting confused now. i have been taking adrenal suplements for 3 weeks and felt an improvement. however someone asked why i was bothering to take supplements when i was on prednisolone . as the prednisole outweighed the other, so did i feel better cos i was just having a few good days .. cant afford to keep buying stuff
Hi, I've never been told that before, in fact Dr P told me to take the two together. I think you should do whatever makes you feel well, if you feel better with them, stick with it and monitor your progress.
I have to say though that it can all be very confusing, I don't know what to do for the best most of the time.
