Can severe stress deplete B12.

Been under a lot of stress recently. My last results for my B12 was 1800.Since then my hubby has been very ill with a thyroid storm and was in hospital for 5wks. He is lucky to be alive. As you can imagine i was under severe stress and now i feel truly awful again. Before all this i was supplementing B12 sublingual 5000mcg and felt well. Because of the stress could my B12 be low again?

I would ask GP for another B12 blood test, he may not be keen if you had one a short while ago. You can still supplement as you cannot overdose as excess is excreted.

I hope your husband recovers quickly as it must be a truly horrible experience for him and you.

Thank you Shaws. I have been to Doc today and he wont retest. He said it was prob all the stress that has made me feel this bad. I have been taking extra b12 this last few days and feeling bit better. Been taking extra magnesium awel as i have been feeling trembly inside. Husband doing a lot better was truly awful watching him. Thanks for the advice.

Hi Annette,

Are you taking B12 methylcobalamin or cyanocobalamin? If you've bought cyanocobalamin, next time buy methylcobalamin as it doesn't have to be converted from cyanocablamin and is more easily absorbed.

Hi Shaws yes its jarrows methyl 5000mcgs. They worked well getting my levels to 1800 ,so im thinking it will take time to get levels back up if it was the stress that depleted my levels.

We know our bodies instinctively better than the doctors and it could well be the stress has depleted your B12.

Hope you feel better soon.
