Can you take a B12 supplement with Levothyroxine

Hello guys, tomorrow I will be returning work having been on sick since 28/04/21. Ive had a bit of a rough ride due to being under-medicated which I didn't realise at first but now it makes sense with a TSH of 8.3. I started a new dosage of 125mcg on 08/05/2021 progress is slow but I have notice very subtle changes. My question is due to the fact I start work very early I get there for around 7am. Is it okay to take a B12 supplement with my dose of levo or take it later on in the day around lunch.

Supplements need to be 2 hours away from levo and any bit d 4 hours away.

Take it 2 hours away from Levo, don't take Vit C at the same time, you could take it at lunchtime which is the latest time recommended for B vitamins as they can be stimulating and you don't want it to disturb your sleep. Don't just take a B12 supplement, we also need a good quality, bioavailable B Complex when taking B12 to keep all the B vitamins in balance.

Do you actually need a separate B12? What is your B12 level?

Im not sure the level, however with this latest relapse slow dragon suggested being under-medicated high TSH etc can lower vitamin levels. So I decided to supplement. Basically anything to try and get me better 😃

Yes but she also suggested testing vitamins.

Much better to test before supplementing. At best you're wasting your money by taking something you don't need and just producing expensive urine if it's a water soluble vitamin, at worst you could do yourself harm by taking something you shouldn't unless you know you need it, eg Vit D, iron, which can build up and lead to toxicity.

A separate 1000mcg B12 supplement is generally only needed when B12 is low but not B12 deficiency when injections might be needed.. Plus it needs to be accompanied by a B Complex to keep all B vitamins in balance.

Please could you recommend a good quality B vitamin complex? Many thanks.

Thorne Basic B and Igennus Super B are popular here.

Personally I prefer Thorne Basic B, it's a capsule and one a day is enough for most people, gives 400mcg methylfolate and 400mcg B12 as methylcobalamin.

Igennus Super B are small tablets, suggested dose is 2 tablets which gives 400mcg methylfolate and 900mcg B12 as methylcobalamin. Some people find that 1 tablet is enough. It does, however, contain Vit C and Vit C can keep your body from using B12.
