i have been on t3 60mcg a day for about 8 months now. not on thyroxine as i felt so ill on it. now i feel ill with the t3 and so fatigued and my eyebrows are almost gone now on outer 2 thirds. i am prescribed t3 from gp but i have heard there is a problem with the t3 in uk and maybe that is why i feel ill and losing eyebrows. i do not know where to turn as gp will not help me anymore. can anyone please give me advice as i feel so ill and i am sure it is thyroid. my blood tests always come back in the ranges .

You have to get a copy of your latest blood tests, with the ranges, for members to comment on them.

Some people have to have a low or suppressed TSH.

Ask your surgery for a print-out and post on a new question.

It's horrible to feel so unwell but maybe someone can suggest a remedy.

katherine, sometimes if the cofactors are way off, you will have symptoms. I've been posting these five minute videos which identify other reasons for low thyroid symptoms. This is #12 of the 22, all of which are very informative but this is about cofactor deficiency.

Hi Heloise - Sorry to bump in here but Thank you! Fantastic! What a great video, educational, to the point and so clearly explained and easily understood. Highly recommend watching this!

liz, I was also impressed when I found this on YouTube a few months ago. I watched all 22 of them, starting with Serotonin. I don't know if you have any functional medicine doctors in your area but the treatment for many hypothyroids would probably be so much more effective instead of just prescribing hormone. It does appear that glucose or cortisol problems may underly the autoimmune attacks. youtube.com/watch?v=nZ_CP7l...

It sounds as if you need to increase your dose. I would do that to see if your symtoms then improve. I am on 150mcg and feel I need to reduce it now as I am much better and it feels as if I am having too much of it. However if my symptoms increase then I increase. I think we have to keep increasing and decreasing our dose according to our symptoms. I'm trying to find a maintenance dose for myself at the moment.

T4 made me worse as well.

Take vit D and B12 as well as these are the vits we also get very low in.

My bloods always come back normal so GP won't prescribe for me so I self medicate. I read on here an article the other day that says those of us who have normal blood tests usually have a T3 conversion problem which applies to me so made sense.

thanks for replies. my gp wont increase my liothyronine (t3). says its dangerous to take too much. no one else in family have thyroid disease so it is not genetic. i feel so lousy and want to sleep all the time. i have had vitamin b12 checked and that is normal. my vit d was very low about 18 months ago and have had supplements for that but do not feel any better. am at my lowest at moment as cannot do very much at all. i do have a lot of stress in life at the moment with a son who is a heroin addict but doesnt live me but i worry all the time.

I think he's wrong with that. Symptoms of hyper would put you off taking too much, and you clearly aren't well with such a small dose. Can you get hold of some more, put it up yourself and see how you feel?

Hi Katherine. I feel for you. My son also got into I believe cocaine some time ago lost everything including his company. I have been supporting him and two kids every other week for the past 6 years. I am making 1000 miles every moth to do this. So look after yourself as every one has already told you probably they need to be wanting to take action themselves. I have also lost my tale end of eye brow.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. I found Al-Anon very helpful. There may be the equivalent for families of drug misusers. It may help you come to terms with letting him work out things himself.

I used RapidLash on my eyebrows and it seemed to help a lot. I wish I could offer more help. xx

Maybe time to have the D tested again - maybe you were not taking enough to improve things. What was your B12 result ? needs to be around 800 and not at the bottom of the range. Think you need to ask for copies of all your results from the Receptionist and post them here - with ranges. VitD is more than a vitamin and so needed in every cell of the body - so LOTS.

Try not to worry about your son. A friend of mine in the UK has experienced similar problems over the years with her daughter. At her present treatment clinic it was found that her thyroid was all over the place with a HIGH TSH and a LOW T3. Thyroid issues can effect the thought processes and some addictive patterns can emerge. Just a thought....

just rang doctors surgery . my vitamin b12 test was 651. reference range 180 to 900. they said it was normal

There is a great deal of information on this forum about B12 and I am not an expert. Your result is not that bad - but you have to remember that only about 20% of that result actually gets to the cells where it is needed and used. Other results are also important like Folate Ferritin Iron too....when taking B12 it is good to take Folic Acid as they work with each other....

Try to read up on posts by hampster1 on this forum and her knowledge on B12....

If you have gut/stomach issues that too can prevent good absorption of important vitamins....

Hi Katherine I am only 40mcg of T3 and 150mcg of T4 but reading around all of this to think about how to improve my symptoms. You are obviously under a lot of stress at the moment which is awful for you but I am wondering how you take your T3? I always take 20mcg at night and 20mcg in the morning but have recently switched (case of trial and error) to taking all 40mcg at night and it has an amazing effect of how I sleep - like a log!!! I wonder if you have looked at CT3M (lots of posts about it on this web site) to see if that could help you. Good luck and best wishes

katherine, no wonder you are ill and stressed. I'm so sorry. I just wanted to add that bringing up your vitamin D level may take huge doses if you are just taking 2,000 i.u., I took 15,000 i.u twice a week and only raised my level by 15 points and I'm still deficient. That was a prescription dose.
