If ever medication is optimised and you feel well again I was wondering if the eyebrows every grow back fully or not? Cosmetic in the whole scheme of things i know but have been wondering.

Do the eyebrows ever grow back?
Yep mine did once I was optimal
Mine have grown back... But they were missing for years.......
Sorry to jump in here but I am interested this too - did your eyebrow completely go, nothing left? And if so how many years were they missing for and what made them grow back? I ask because mine fell out 9 years ago - completely gone within months and it took me about 2 years before I got treatment - 7 years on treatment and they have never grown back - I was told they probably wont now which is why I am interested in your post!
I have been hypo for a long time.... 25 years plus. I lost the outer third of my eyebrows a long long time ago and I only really noticed that they have grown back fully, this year. I was on t4/ t3/ t4 and t3 combinations until I started self treating about three years ago... Am now on NDT.
When I was first diagnosed. I had lost a lot of hair, it was very sparse at the front and sides.... It grew back after a couple of years t4 treatment but the eyebrows never did.

Mine have never grown back - I literally have none and very few eyelashes too. Am so self-conscious. My health had taken an upturn and thought I'd cracked it, boo.
Hello !! I los mine years ago and used a pencil to make eyebrows which I came to do with perfection, I have over a few years (twice )had then tattooed in with great success ...delighted with the results .. costly but worth it ..... Good Luck
Mine grew back after a couple if years.
4 years since diagnosis and mine are just starting to grow back.
Do you mind me asking did all your eyebrow hair fall out and then regrow or where they just sparse?
I totally lost the edges of my eyebrows, both inner and outer, and was left with a few strands in the middle. In the last few months almost half an inch has regrown at either end. The hairs are a bit straggly at the moment and rather uneven, but hey, I'm so relieved something is finally happening.
It may be cosmetic but affects how you feel. It took a long time but mine grew back too - a friend had the eyebrow tattoo which worked well. I use a product called gimme brow by benefit which acts a bit like a mascara for eyebrows and helps thicken them.
hope yours start growing soon
I asked a consultant - he says to me that if someone has a genetic predisposition for hair loss including eye brow thinning or 1/3 of eye brow(s) then it would be likely to stay though it may come back from time to time.
Like he knew anything. Pah. Ask him for the research refs. If a consultant has a genetic predisposition for bullshit, they make stuff up.
I lost the outer third of my eyebrows when I was over medicated on Carbimazole (I have Graves). They started growing back when I was only very slightly hypo and they are now back as they were when they were normal.
yes after 20 years they are coming back but sporadic and all over not the nice eyebrows i once had
Lol........that is funny my eyebrows seem to have run off or escaped.........lol........my husband said as we passed a beauty parlour would you like some stuck on eyebrows........I thought omg.......I said No my eyebrow pencil will do...........to be honest my eyebrows have almost disappeared and I doubt if they will ever come back...........sorry......
Mine has on NDT
Oops didnt realise this thread is over 2 years old!🙈
Not fully, and possibly blonde. I highly recommend an inexpensive brow/lash thickener called Select Lash Eyelash serum. The high-cost stuff is no better and untill then, use a pencil and toothbrush. It's frustrating, but they will please you again.
I find it so peculiar and rather interesting that the outer part of the eyebrows get weak/are gone with hypothyroidism. So specific area. I wonder why exactly that happens...

This article is quite interesting on why it happens it even has a name: Madarosis
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
And Helvella has posted this which may shed more light on our miserable madarosis I have yet to plough through it is a bit heavy duty
Mine have sort of come back but are very scrubby and in the last 1/3 very spartan and unruly - as a younger pre hypo me they were so perfect I never even needed to pluck them. I don't let it bother me just glad to be here really
