Eyebrows - help needed!

Hi all, sorry if this is a bit off topic but it is about a symptom of thyroid issues. I’m fed up of only having half my eyebrows and, because I’m ginger, drawing them on every day and getting the colour to match is really difficult! I’m wondering about microblading and, seeing as a lot of you are likely to have the same issue, I wondered if anyone has any experience of having this done and how it went? If anyone has an recommendations for a good place to get it done near the Reading, Berkshire area it’d be good if they could PM me. Thanks in advance!

My daughter had this done and unfortunately it didn't last more than 3 months before it faded and it cost her £350. I was thinking of having it done but if it fades that quickly I would find it a waste of money.

Oh crikey that’s a lot of money for it not to work! I thought it lasted 12-18 months. Thanks for letting me know.

I did wonder why it faded so quickly myself and my daughter was told to come back and have it re-done but she decided against it. The lady who did it has a instagram page and seems popular so it might be it doesn't work on some people as well as it does on others. I would do your research if I was you.

Will do thanks!

It can fade for many reasons? That’s why a top up is usually included. Did she have two sessions?

Also dependant on health your body can push out the colour sooner than desired. I was told this if your hypo but I’ve not had any problems and to keep mine fresh I just have a top up once a year

No she didn't want to pay her anymore money.

A top up is always included with the first treatment in one amount six weeks later. Then it’s a yearly tip up which is extra

I don't have an answer to that I'm afraid ,but would you consider having them tattooed? I don't know if that is different from micro lab but...just a thought!

From what I’ve read, microblading looks more natural, but I could be wrong

Lora7again profile image

It does look very natural because my daughters looked great at first and then they faded unfortunately.

Faces change / which is why it’s not advisable to have a tattoo which goes seven layers into the skin. Semi permanent is two and works it’s way out over time. I’m a 20 years in and have then re done every three to five or so. These newer techniques are supposed to be annually. Micro blading is thin strokes. There are three others a s well but microblading is the in fashion right now.

Hey there Julesboz

I had my eyebrows tattooed some 12 years ago.

The eye brows are still there, faded but it still gives me some definition and colour.

I also had the permanent eyeliner applied and that just lasted a couple of years, and believe this needs more maintenance, but I didn't bother again, maybe I washed my face too much!!

I have been toying with the idea of getting these, just to try, but don't know anything much about them:

Oh they look like a really good idea, not seen them before. Unfortunately I swim 3 times a week and I’m not sure how they’d last with chlorine and goggles rubbing them? Maybe they’re worth a try?

If I make up my mind to try them, I'll let you know! But don't hold your breath. lol

Morning Greygoose. Just ' wasted ' a couple of hours this morning Googling eyebrow treatments ;0) !!

I was looking at Rogaine /Minoxadil topical treatments but they are not recommended or designed for eyebrow use. I've also tried " Just for Men" beard dye which worked quite well, as I normally go to a salon, but we are home based at the moment. Again this is not designed for use in eyebrows.

This doesn't solve the problem of very little eyebrow hair. I'm taking my vitamins etc.

Did you pursue the microblading research? We are out of lockdown soon and I'm thinking of a Christmas present to myself in the new year....

No, I'm afraid present events have chased all thought of eyebrows out of my head! When you're trying to stay alive, eyebrows don't seem very important anymore. :)

Yes. Stay safe 🙂

@suecom my daughter who doesn't have thyroid disease paid £350 to have her eyebrows microbladed and unfortunately they don't last. I use Maybelline Brow Tattoo Gel which you leave on and then peel off and it works well for me.

Ah that sounds more affordable. Many thanks ! 🙂 Something to cheer me up.

Thanks for bringing this up again, it looks like the maybelline solution could be good 😀

I have been getting micro blading for almost 3 years,. After the first session you go back after 6 weeks to check if you need anymore done which was included in the original cost of £200. I go back once a year for a top up & I think that was £125 each year. My eyebrows are fair & I get them dyed every few months.

Julesboz profile image
Julesboz in reply todusty2

That’s interesting to know that you need them dyed even after microblading. I thought that would remove the need for it?

dusty2 profile image

I prefer to get them dyed a light brown so they don't show through the micro blade strokes.

Hi I’m a trained beautician and training in semi permanent make up and scar camouflage.

Yes it’s amazing when you lose your brows. I’ve had mine done and it saves so much time using makeup and brows really do frame yourself face and make you look more youthful.

If you find somewhere local check all the photos of their work. Look for a natural hair stroke and notice the colours used. You’ll know what you like and don’t like so find the right person you can trust

I’ve had the old fashioned semi permanent tattoo since the late 90’s. Red heads should be fine. It sounds like it was placed in the first layer not the second which is good as some people go the other way and make it permanent.

Your consultation is very important and maybe take a couple of days before you pay a deposit to decide I’m or ask more questions.

Has the aesthetician offered anything? Some new techniques need a top up annually. There’s a few techniques. Most specialise in only one. Best to get someone who has dedicated 7+ years. My ladies are London and Oxford if you want me to inbox you their details. I’m glad you’re having it redone as some would have given up.

Mine are a bit sparse so I use a brow brush to make them look thicker. I don't want any kind of permanent eyebrows just incase I don't like the shape.

dusty2 profile image
dusty2 in reply toLora7again

At consultation they ask what you want.

They mark & measure eyebrows before they start so you see shape your brows will be & they let you decide if that is shape you want.
