Should I add on to my Blood Form...

Hi, my GP has given me a blood form to repeat my TSH, T3 & T4 as ive recently started on 25mcg Levo. Lots of you have suggested I also get my Ferritin and B12 done too, ive got the form here and my friend who works at the hospital is gonna take my blood in the morning. Do you think I could get away with ticking the ferritin and B12 boxes and get them tested or will my GP question it when the results come back and/or have a copy ?? I know its cheeky....

You could always phone and leave a message for him, saying 'I hope it's o.k. that I've also asked for B12 and ferritin to be checked'. You can always say you thought of it later on and you would also like to have a Vitamin D too next time as both are usually low in hypo patients.

Its a little naughty but its probably what i would do, mind you our surgery is so big my gp probably wouldnt remember exactly what tests were ordered. Not recommending this though.

well that's what I thought, although my surgery isn't that big.... she's a lovely GP and im sure she wouldn't mind but don't want to upset her.. maybe ill ask her for them next time... its so tempting... lol

if you get on well with your gp , as I do , .....contact the surgery and insist on speaking with him/her and TELL them what you intend to do ....they will agree [ because they may well have missed it ] ....my gp is learning all the time about thyroid problems , but in the very definition of being a general practitioner -- has to cover many different ailments and cannot be expected to know everything about all things --- but you do need the other tests to be carried out to show the full extent of your health situation ......they are as important as the rest ......alan

Hi I would not without checking, GP may notice and does not help trust between you.I know very tempting!

I wouldnt either, theres a question of money and who is liable to pay for unauthorised tests, its also a breach of trust.

I wouldn't mind having to pay for them anyway if I had to, as they are important x

well, i've decided to now, after a few of you saying you would, my friend is doing my bloods up at the hospital in about an hour then I'm gonna take them over to the lab. my own GP is now away until after Xmas (just found out) so I have booked with a different GP for the results on Monday. Hoping that will work out ok now..... To be honest I don't see why anyone should worry about the cost, especially as they are necessary as ive paid my NI all my life :-)

Well saw other GP, who didn't even think I should be on Levo with my blood results!! waste of time.

Results were;

(except T3 ?? even though it was requested on the blood form.. unless they take a bit longer than other??) don't know what you can make of them...

My first results 7 weeks ago were, TSH 2.3 (0.35-4.5)

FT3 4.1 (4-8.3)

T4 11.1 (10-24)

Today they were TSH 0.97 and T4 12.3

to me it looks like they are better ....

Also, got B12 344...

Folate 14.8

Feritin 25 Ug/l

Don't know what they mean?
