diverticolosis

I had a barium enema 10 years ago, & was found to have a normal bowel apart from some diverticulae. I`m not that surprised as I used to be chronically constipated until I found the correct diet. The thing that worries me is how dangerous are they, & should I press for surgery to remove them?

my personal feeling is avoid surgery whenever you can.. my daughter had 4 severe attacks of diverticolutis which remained MISdiagnosed until the last attack. To avoid surgery she followed the plan of Arthur White's Diverticulitis available in UK and has not have an attack since. I have not been diagnosed yet but have similar pains with PD and his ideas have helped me too, namely, diet, exercise and a regular (no pun intended) schedule :)

I have IBS & Diverticulosis it is quite common effecting more of us as we age. I too would avoid surgery. Doctors say it has something to do with the western diet so that's the 1st thing to rethink. With IBS D it was recommended that you strengthen the gut muscle and try to hold, whereas with diverticula you shouldn't hold but release asap to avoid infection when waste gets stuck in the sacs. I would look into other things before you think of surgery. Wish you well and let us all know how you get on
