I am sure what I have is not IBS so why have I been prescribed Buscopan? ...the first or 2nd or third mouthful of a meal gets stuck at the bottom of my esophagus at my esophageal schincter muscle which feels like it is cramping shut and not allowing my food down! Feels like I am being stabbed in the heart! ...I have been given Tranxium 5mg and Esomeprazol 40mg to take every 12hrs and Buscopan 10 mins before I eat. At least 1 meal a day I still get the horrendous pain even with this medication. I have had an Endoscope a catscan and blood tests ...they can't find anything wrong with me! 😥

Buscopan
It may be anxiety.xx
Because buscopan is an anti spasmodic which will help with the cramping, why didn't you just ask the doctor? It also sounds like u suffer from anxiety, try some yoga to help u relax. 😊
This sounds awful Chloe. I take Buscopan before meals, as mentioned it's an anti-spasmodic, and it's meant to calm the movement of the bowel. It does not irradiate it, only takes the edge off. But if I eat whilst under stress / anxiety or feeling panicky it actually does very little in calming it and within 10 minutes I am on the loo followed by an empty tank!
Do you feel any stress, or pressure, when eating ?
Buscopan works with many people for IBS but for me it made it much worse. (In lessening cramps it slows down the gut so any irritant fibrous foods stay in the gut much longer and carry on irritating the gut lining) One of your medications is a proton pump inhibitor. PPI. Lots of people including myself have problems with them as they can cause incredibly painful stomach cramps. There must be one ingredient in all types of this medication which aggravates IBS. If you suffer with IBS and acid stomach you would be better off in my opinion getting an over the counter antacid or better still eat a ginger biscuit, have a glass of water or a price of toast. As to the IBS, it does cause painful cramps, it can swing back and forth between constipation and diarrhoea. Try cutting out dairy as you may have suddenly become dairy/lactose intolerant. Then go on the low Fodmap diet....see it on line. But, if you do avoid fruit and porridge for just a couple of weeks to let your intestines settle down and become less irritated. Good luck.
Thank you but I tried anti acids didn't work - which is how I ended up in hospital. ...it isn't my stomach that is the problem it is the muscle which allows food into my stomach.
only fruit like( cherries, grapes, pears apple) not good), banana are good, and oat porridge is good and calming with soya milk surely? I found colofac was very helpful, half hour before food. But I find if I eat rice, like with a curry, the rice gets so compacked that for some reason it has trouble going down, and I get that swaming of water coming into my mouth as if Im going to be sick. I try to stay calm and try to swallow the water, coming into my mouth,,, but you can get a narrowing of the throat, tubes, or something, do more reasearch. I nearly choked on a hot dog, bread, while out, and I had to put my hands down my throat to get or get my self the retch, to get it out, I was not able to breath, and no one could see I was in trouble. That happened twice.
Hi.My wife suffers from something similar.
She was diagnosed with oesophagus spasm, it got so bad that she thought that it was a heart attack, and it was very painfull. Our doctor sent her for tests at hospital, she takes amitriptalene, and now has no problems whatever.
Maybe it might be an idea to ask your doctor about this.
Good luck.!
It sounds as though you are feeling very anxious about this which is probably making it 10 times worse. Maybe look at it from another angle... it’s easy for stress to creep up on you and you don’t realise how wound up you are. And don’t underestimate the amount of stress we are all having because of this pandemic, whether we are aware of it or not. If you’re not getting anywhere with meds, it’s time to really look at how you are living and looking at life. It’s amazing what taking a breath and stepping back can reveal if you give yourself some time to think. I’m hoping I don’t sound patronising, it’s my own experience that I’m referring to. Good luck and I hope you find some relief for your condition.
Since you have to eat 3 x a day and suffer pain each time, I wouldn't assume that this is not causing any stress.
You don't say whether it was an upper endoscopy or a lower endoscopy. It sounds like a really should be going down through your throat. Perhaps they did? I would really want to make sure they've taken a good look at thd esophagus.
