Hello - I had mucus around around my poo last week, four days ago there was a bit of red blood in it, the doc said if it didn't clear up ring back, no more blood but still mucus so rang back this morning. Different doc, I asked if it could be piles as I was sore and itchy and felt swollen, she said piles don't usually make mucus and prescribed some cream and is sending me two kits - Faecal Calprotectin and Faecal Immunochemical to check my stool. I did advise I had a clear NHS rectal screen in December, but still wanted the tests. She did ask if I wanted to be examined, I said no because of Covid but now wish I was going as I am very worried. Have got to make another appointment when I have sent the tests off. Thank you for your support, this is a great site for help, good to feel I'm not the only worrier! xx

Mucus
Hello I hope you are ok I have had to go through lots of tests recently too as my IBS symptoms have changed a bit with really bad nausea and groin pain . Had flexi sigmoidoscopy yesterday all normal and all bloods normal it’s scary as I’m 54 and always worry about other conditions . Hope you get sorted soon
If it’s bright red blood it’s less of a concern. Piles do cause blood itching and soreness. Mucus is produced so that the stool can pass and is not so visible unless you are constipated, you may see it then. Also infection or IBD like colitis can cause both. Diverticula will cause blood and is common as you get older. Ie 70 percent over 70, 80 percent over 80 etc
Getting mucus can be related to constipation. Are you constipated? See here for reference:continence.org.au/bristol-s...
