Mucus ongoing issue

Hi all. I have messaged before and thank everyone for there advice. I still have intermittent passing of clear discharge mucus every so often. Maybe once a week and when it starts it last 24hrs. It feels like diarrhea but when i goto the toilet its clear smelly mucus. Awful to be honest.

I had my colonoscopy done 2 weeks ago after waiting 2 years of this problem. The prep wasn't nice but i was determined to get it done. The actual procedure was fine i enjoyed it to be be honest and was glad to be there getting it done. It was normal everything was fine. No polyps. No inflammation. They took multiple biopsy and they have just came back clear. Ive had bloods done before and fit tests ok

I feel really deflated and fed up with life now. There is no help for me. No one knows whats went wrong with me. I take loperamide daily to control diarrhea so i have solid stool but will have watery gas mucus discharge in between all that. Ive went gluten free and dairy free and nothing helps.

Has anyone else got this problem

They said it might be ibs but what a condition i have. Solution is to wear a nappy i was told.

Anyone got the sams problem?.

It's classic IBS, your symptoms are similar as mine, Believe me when I tell you medicine doesn't have a solution to this illness, I live in Nigeria and i have resorted into herbal remedies which has been working fantastically well for me.

Hi . was a stool sample taken . I have the same , and was diagnosed as BAM .[ Bile acid malabsorption ] i was prescribed Colestyramine and now only have mucus every couple of months . it took 20+ years for me to get diagnosed and it is a life changer .i am still on imodium daily for pass 28 years but at least now i dont have any leakage .

I see you are from Ireland, do they not have the SeHCAT test in Ireland, like they do in the UK?

Oh sorry, I misinterpreted, I thought they had some way of telling from the stool sample! Silly me!

Hi trishy. Thanks for the reply. They thought i might have that when all this started. I got a pack of Colestyramine but it caused me severe diarrhea i had to stop after 4 days so no idea what to do. The imodium helps me greatly as far as bowel motion but does not help the mucus building up and having to release.

Hi PaulolInteresting to hear you have had some good results with herbal remedies. Can you let me know what you take please? Seem to have got my IBS relatively under control at the moment but have bad days still.

Has anyone mentioned BAM (Bile Acid Malabsorption) to you. Perhaps you might like to look at the link below:

Hi maureen. I will look back into that thanks. I will try anything now to get help as i cant go on like this. The local doctors answer was to wear a diaper which i dont want to do

Just seen your comment above that the colestyramine did not work for you. There are two other BIle Sequestrants they use, colesevelam and colestipol. I don't know if they might be worth asking about?!

Thanks maureen. I will speak to the doctor on monday. Im glad the colonoscopy was OK i was convinced i had a serious issue but thankfully not in the large bowel. I do wonder though if the mucus is from the small bowel the intestines but i doubt that really. Im no doctor though

I'm no doctor either but I am just wondering whether you are producing more bile acid on the days it plays up and it's just too much for the body to contain so the excess ends up travelling down to the end of the large colon maybe caught up in a bubble of air. But like you say, we are not doctors.

I manage my IBS mostly by the FODMAP diet. Flax seed bought whole and then ground up in a coffee grinder helps a lot. I put two tablespoons on my oatmeal in the morning and add a banana and blueberries with almond milk. Its yummy. I make a batch of oatmeal for the week so it's easy each day.

Hi achoo. Thanks for the reply. I will try some flaxseed today. See if that does anything for me.
