DISCOMFORT

I have had IBS for a number of years now and take Imodium to control the urgency. I often have problems in the morning especially trying to get out of the house. I go often and feel that my bowels have to be empty before leaving. However, I suffer quite a bit from discomfort after so many visits and I am now taking Buscopan more often to help. Does anyone have any other recommendations for discomfort?

i have severe i.b.s had it since 2005 i take buscapan also loperamide ?i need to go to toilet twice in morning before i attempt to go out that i do

If you are talking about discomfort being pain then I have been taking Kolanticon Gel and it is the only thing that works for me, Buscupan does absolutely nothing. If you don't mind a medicine containing Aluminium then I would try this. Chemist Direct are one site that sell this medicine and there are others.

Hope this or something else works for you.

It's more like my tummy feels so sensitive and kind of crampy! Sometimes, but not often, it feels it's burning too. Not like pain sometimes I get after eating. I've been looking into the gel you mention, especially with you mentioning it containing aluminium. I am not sure about it. I've taken Silicol gel before and I am going to try that again, especially when I am on holiday as you know different foods affect our IBS. It annoys me when on holiday when I see people eating/drinking whatever they want! Thanks for your reply. I've just seen another reply that mentions we shouldn't take any medication for IBS but we can only do what we feel works for us. That's what I think anyway.

I certainly understand your concerns re the medicine containing Aluminium as I have a concern about it also so this is why I am continuing down the dietary route more. I have to say since cutting right back on Lactose, soon to cut it out completely, I don't get half as much tummy pain as I used to. I did eat a lovely bowl of fruit a couple of weeks ago with a small amount of vanilla ice cream on top, the result was diarrhea and nausea, I won't be doing that again in a hurry and will make sure I stick to the fruits that are on the FODMAP diet. Although I am going to follow the FODMAP diet I realised that I needed to look into it further as I need to plan meals as it's not going to be easy, I won't be able to just grab a sandwich. I agree with you, I so wish I could eat and drink what I liked, life would be so much easier and to not feel poorly would be lovely.

I can actually put up with pain but I find the diarrhea and nausea the hardest; I certainly don't suffer with it like a lot of people do on this forum but when I do get it I feel really poorly. I also have Emetophobia (fear of being sick, seeing others sick etc) which doesn't help when I get nausea but I purchased a book off Amazon a while back and am slowly working my way through it. The book is The Thrive Programme by Rob Kelley and it's really good and the reviews are amazing, someone on here followed the programme and she said it has changed her life.

Going back to Aluminium, I have now read on a few occasions that Aluminium could contribute to the cause of Alzheimers hence why I don't really like taking the medicine - why do they put it in our medicines and foods!! I use an anti perspirant that does work and it 100% natural crystal, I will never go back to 'normal' anti perspirants.

I hope you do find something that works for you.

Hi there, it's actually a nonsense to take medication for IBS, it will worsen your problems over time, i speak out of experience, had IBS (diagnosed by "reductio ad absurdum" only after all my tests, and they were many, were all negative) over a 5 years period (think it was triggered, maintained and accentuated by overwhelming stress, poor diet and lack of exercise) by the end of which period i literally thought I will die. I healed myself last year, in a short period of 3 months, by avoiding any type of medication (not even an aspirin), avoiding any type of medical doctor, changing my diet to a raw organic vegetarian one and exercising everyday for at least 30 minutes. YOUR BODY IS SMART, IT WILL HEAL ITSELF, YOU JUST HAVE TO LET IT WORK AND DO NOT INTERFERE STUPIDLY!!! Since then I feel much stronger, have an outstanding physical and psychological stamina, my digestion got back to normal (after horrifying diarrhea bouts) and life is wonderful again! No more IBS - by eradicating the root causes of it, and not trying to repress the symptoms... This guy helped me a lot, with his short explanations, he made me change my lifestyle and although I do not personally know him, I am very thankful I got over him on Youtube accidentally... life changing experience if you suffer from a dis-ease and do not know the REAL causes... hope it helps you too: youtu.be/MYKdLeL3SGo

Thanks for your reply. I will look at the video you attached, but at the moment I feel that I can only do what I think works for me. You mention a raw organic vegetarian diet, but I find that too much vegetables and fruit make my IBS worse. As you know we are all different. I do walk so do get exercise. I feel IBS makes me anxious when going out and about and travelling and sometimes I have to rely on medication to help me. I do partake in relaxation activities too to help me cope. However, I am pleased to learn that you have cured your IBS.

You can do it too, no question about that! Better to approach it drastically, like eliminating every unhealthy habit at once, you will feel better in a matter of a few weeks.

Of course you feel awkward from the fruits and veggies, your digestive system must get used to the new kind of healthy food, your gut bacteria has to restore and change too, but like I said, in a matter of a couple of weeks it will be much better.

That's amazing Kory and so pleased you have cured yourself. I try and buy some organic stuff but cannot afford to go completely organic, it angers me that the 'healthy' foods, which I actually enjoy more than the unhealthy foods, are so much dearer. For instance, my carrots cost me 95p each week for a 500g bag but I could get 2 very large bags of carrots for about the same price. I buy the carrots as someone told me many years ago that root vegetables, particularly carrots, soak up the non organic sprays that are used.

I am growing pears out in my garden and am using organic spray for those.
