Not sure if it is IBS related but I often especially at night have stomach or bowel gurgling noises. It doesn’t cause pain or discomfort or make me go to toilet but I am aware of it? Anyone have this?

Gurgling noise
do you get any mucus in stools?
I think I have once. White floaty things attached? Only seen it once though
yes, I get it every day. had the gurgling too but thats stopped now. Sounds very very much like IBS. is the gurgling the only symptom you have? I wouldn't worry about it if thats all thats going on. you can get peppermint capsules and charcoal from holland and barrett/ online health stores which help with gas and bloating etc so should ease it for you
No this past few weeks on and off I have cramps and diarrhoea some days as well as the gurgling noise. I don’t really get much bloating. I have only started getting these symptoms April/May. I have just been taking pain killers and buscopan for cramps etc and have taken diarrhoea tabs but still have a dull ache and crampy feeling the whole day but the diarrhoea has stopped. Cramping Usually goes away after a day. Just don’t know if it’s food causing it or what foods. I need to start keeping diary and get app with gp as I don’t know if it is IBS yet
Yes a diary is helpful I do that also. Where’s the dull ache? Usually same place?
Yea just stomach ache slight crampy feeling. How often do u get your flare ups and how long do they last if u don’t mind me asking?
well I started noticing mucus in stool in February and I had ulcerative colitis. I had to take a stool sample in to measure calprotectin levels which is inflammation in the gut. it was really high so started steroid treaments and went down to normal levels but still seeing mucus most days and like lower right abdominal discomfort. so theyre just putting it down to IBS with the levels being normal again which would indicate it was my colitis flaring up, but could also be iBS on top of it, so its been like 4 months
I also have ulcerative colitis, I never know if it is colitis playing up or IBS playing up. Went on steroids 3 weeks ago, great I had a normal week felt normal but since coming of them I have been worse. I take Octasa (Asacol) for my colitis. Have an appointment at the gastric clinic in July. Have in the past had a Baruim enema, 2 Stigmoidoscopy, 2 Colonoscopy which showed colitis and diviculitis (sorry about spelling) but sure it is IBS playing up, stressed out about it which is not helping.
Hi, yes I get that and always only late afternoon / evening, even if drinking water at times, guess reason it’s more end of the day is already had breakfast / lunch by then and then adding more on top of that later in day ?
just looking at some of these posts re IBS - for years i had IBS and it was only after a perforated bowel this February I discovered I had diverticultis! that possibly caused all IBS symptoms or a large proportion of them and my emergency ruptured bowel i am guessing may have been preventable or at least more predictable had i known - all it would have taken is the GP to request a CT scan...
Mine gurgles a lot especially if I've eaten
Stomach or bowel gurgling noises are natural. It shows your digestive system is working. This can especially happen overnight particularly since your bowel is preparing for a BM in the morning.
Hi yes my bowel gurgles alot too anytime throught the day but not on a regular basis.
Oh gurgling is a common annoying problem with IBS. I HAVE a washing machine stomach first time morning and sometimes evening, but still doesn't stop me waking up in the night with cramp. Stress especially at this time, altered diets because of your usual food is not on the shelves all add to a lot of people suffering tummy problems more. Try to to sleep with a decent dinner, because empty tummy causes acid and gas, but NOT after 7pm. Listen to jazz or smooth music before turning into calm your body before bed, not like me battling tanks at 10pm on PS4!!!
I think most people have this with IBS or not. Natural part of food moving through digestive system.
Yes i have i b s and bile salt malapsorbtion after gall bladder removal i had the gurgling noises also before my surgery and now. As you say no pain but the bile acid which breaks up food is doing overtime and usually a while after i get diarreah
It’s called borborygmia and it’s perfectly normal.
The sound is a result of perostalsis, this is your small intestine contracting and the noise is food and gas moving around.
Everyone gets it and it varies depending on what you’ve eaten etc.
Some people are more aware of the noises their gut makes and although you may hear it as being loud it usually isn’t noticed by others.
If you have no other symptoms then you don’t need to worry.
