I’ve had IBS for as long as I can remember. Definitely linked to anxiety. I have severe outbreaks and have taken antidepressants for years and will always do so. I’ve been meditating daily for a few years and wish I had started years ago. I’ve also done a course of online hypnotherapy specifically for IBS which has helped me to feel calmer about symptoms and more optimistic about managing thoughts about the future, less catastrophizing. I have a PhD in that!
I’m on Low FODMAP diet which has helped a lot.
Does anyone find that they have abdominal pain after pooing? Mine can last for hours. Mebeverine eases it sometimes.

You should try a new product for IBS called FerroCalm, I've used it for the last 2 months and haven't had a single flare up for the first time in decades
Yes i have pain after going to the toilet, sometimes lasts all day. It also makes me feel really tired. I have to resort to buscopan or paracetamol. There does not seem to be anything else available for this
I get cramps for up to an hour before BM then left burning the next half hour? Even though BM normal. Have to lay down for about 10 minutes after as exhausted.
Yes, sometimes I have that too. I did yesterday in fact. I had to take an Ibuprofen. Today I'm better. Not sure what that happens, but later in the day I had to take an antacid before bed so not sure if the two are somehow connected.
Hi Sidney. I get pain and bloating after having a poo too. My stomach churns up and it takes days to calm down. I've tried everything but nothing seems to help. I don't understand it. You would think going to the toilet would relieve the symptoms. I'm so sorry you're in pain too. it's awful
It's great to hear from someone who's been on a similar journey with IBS and anxiety. Your resilience and proactive approach to managing your health are truly inspiring.
Living with IBS can indeed feel like a constant balancing act, especially when anxiety enters the picture. It sounds like you've found a solid support system with antidepressants and meditation. It's amazing how daily practices like meditation can make such a difference, isn't it? And it's never too late to start.
I'm glad to hear that online hypnotherapy has been beneficial for you in managing your symptoms and shifting your perspective toward a more optimistic outlook. It takes courage and dedication to explore different avenues of therapy, and it sounds like it's been a valuable addition to your toolkit. Plus, having a PhD in not catastrophizing—now, that's quite an achievement!
The Low FODMAP diet has been a game-changer for many dealing with IBS, so it's fantastic to hear that it's made a significant difference for you as well. This is something I want to try..
As for your question about abdominal pain after bowel movements, that's unfortunately a common experience among those with IBS. It's great that Mebeverine provides some relief, even if it's not always consistent.
You're not alone in this journey, and your willingness to share your experiences and seek support is commendable. Keep leaning on your coping mechanisms, and remember to be kind to yourself along the way.
