hi there are cameras the only way to look at diverticula etc ? I will never have them again up or down so no point anyone telling me it will be ok next time . lol . I get side pain much more than I used to though I’m not very good at watching what I eat as I’m df and gf so I would end up hardly eating , it was suggested 5 years ago when I had the cameras , they just said ibs diverticulosis and staying free from may help

I go from constipated to diahorria no ryme or reason . But always managed to do some .

sometimes like this week yellow when wiping .

Im very reluctant to go back as if I won’t have cameras there is t much point ?

stomach never been great since all the treatments for breast cancer 14 years ago . Rarely go out socially as often cancel and don’t want to be a burden . Self employed work so I manage . Anxiety dosnt help

Thanks for reading

Hi. Sorry to hear about your suffering. Join the club. I have had a colonoscopy & sigmoidoscopy, both horrendous, it was advised second time round they used a paediatric scope, as colonoscopy was a difficult procedure. I don’t think I’ve been the same since. Anyway diagnosis was severe diverticulosis both times. I have swore that I won’t have another one, although the sigmoid wasn’t quite so bad. I am in constant discomfort with pain. I used to be always constipated, but not now. I have to rush to the loo. I also have started to find yellow too, what’s all that about? Doc has suggested to get a poo sample done to check for blood. I know they can give you a CT scan now if anything is found but it would still mean a colonoscopy to do biopsies 😩.

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer too & I am starting radiotherapy soon. I also have terrible anxiety

Keep calm & carry on as they say & keep taking the tablets!

Best wishes.

Ally

As heartmatters1 says they can do a ct scan but if anything found they do the endoscopy’s for biopsies, I too have IBS and they found diverticula too, did they not offer you sedation for the endoscopy’s? I rooted for sedation this time around(also swore I wouldn’t have any more but was necessary) it doesn’t put you to sleep although I did nod off and I was only aware the last couple of minutes at the end.

I told them before during and after that they would need a chemo nurse or similar to find a vein no one believed me

Told me they found a vein I k re they hadn’t

Don’t was agony and they had to stop

Friend is beating breast cancer with diet and fasting. Sugar feeds cancer.

I am also gluten free a dairy free. My dietician said try going lactose free instead of dairy free. That way at least you det the goodness of cows milk. You say there is no rym or reason for your symptoms, yet you won't follow the diet. It just a matter of getting used to it and finding alternatives. If you carry on like this you will end up like me, with very thin bones and osteoarthritis too. Its not so bad you can stick to the old fashion idea of meat and two veg. There is nice gluten free gravy out there. Have you tried the fodmap diet. I found it helpful as a guide to what fruit and veg I can eat. Why are you gluten free. Are you a celiac? Maybe just cut out gluten dairy one at a time. See what happens. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply I have had no gluten or dairy for 5-6 years though I do have Lacto free milk and cheese ? Too scared to try anything so have never ever tried even a mouthful

Then for I ment was a bland liquid diet when the pain is bad ( flare up?) I have bisto best which is free from , they said not celiac by testing lining of stomach

I do sympathise, I was dreading the colonoscopy I had, but I requested heavy sedation cos I hate any kind of investigation and it was ok. The diverticular diagnosis they said was common as you get older, most of the population have it, but it only shows up if you're investigated. Breast cancer runs through both sides of my family, I have been lucky to avoid it so far. Have you thought of hypnosis in general? If I see a toilet, somebody mentions one, my brain instantly leaps into action and I have to dash, even if the thought hadn't crossed my mind before. I think anxiety plays a big part in IBS, and maybe less medication, and more relaxation? Yoga, pilates, hypnotherapy apps? All can be done at home, although I prefer a class (near a loo!) I found the Nervapp very useful and quite cheap.

I had a choice of either standard colonoscopy or a virtual colonoscopy via CT scan of course i chose the CT which is just as effective apart from it can not remove polyps or take samples however CT version does have the advantage of spotting any other diseases etc outside of the colon

The ct is that the one where you still have inserted a tiny way and different air so dosnt hurt so much and not the same prep ? I think it was colongraphy? I’ve had that as well

The very small pipe inserted into your bum is to inflate the colon its not even that bad i just didnt enjoy the bowel prep the worst part of it. At the end of the its the least invasive out of all the procedures

Yes I had that after the failed colonoscopy and refusal for any more

And I only got that as a friend knew someone in the department and pulled some strings for to my treatment before

This was 5-6 years ago so things may have changed in there ? Thanks

mine was in 2018 in London NHS hospital

My daughter recently swallowed the tiny camera on the nhs. The prep was the same as for a colonoscopy but the procedure was much better!

Never known anyone being offered that here

This was in London last year - are you in the UK? I also have a friend in Sheffield who had one last year - her BP was too high for a colonoscopy so they did the camera for her.

Yes uk Lincolnshire

It may be worth asking. They did the prep, went to hospital the next morning and swallowed the tiny capsule. Wore a belt which recorded thousands of images during the day, as the camera travelled through the system. Went back to the hospital later in the evening to give the belt back and passed the capsule within 24-48 hours.
