This week, I read about a study suggesting a possible link between xylitol and cardiovascular issues. Obviously, if this is true, it would be concerning as dry mouth products containing xylitol are helpful to so many of us.

The latest news is on xylitol. I have always heard positive things about xylitol, especially regarding its ability to help prevent tooth decay. It can be everywhere including some toothpastes, candies, chewing gum, and mouthwash. Unfortunately, it may cause problems with blood clotting.

I can drink water, use gum, use mints, use xylitol based mouthwash/toothpaste, all to no avail. It returns within minutes. Does anyone know which, if any of these drugs, might be the culprit? Any help, or comment would be much appreciated.

The one new thing i have been doing is eating dr johns hard candies which have xylitol in them. I just read in Finland they descovered it helps with bone loss by helping you to absorb your calcium.

Whilst Xylitol may be equivalent to Mannitol for increasing butyrate, I would like to commend it for its ability to fight tooth decay. Of course you can chew gum containing Xylitol, but it is not recommended if you have mercury amalgam fillings.
