First day of dialysis
HI Everyone. Im a newbie to the dialysis thread. Just about to start my first dialysis today. Gfr is at 6% but apart from fatigue, I feel fine. I am an absolute bag of nerves. I have been to the dialysis unit for an induction but that seems to have made me more anxious. I cant believe the day, I have

Adjust Crown, Mood Roller Coaster Begin
I meet with my nephrologist this week. Always nerve wrecking. The highs and lows of all of this are definitely a roller coaster and I know I still haven't fully gotten on. I'm waiting on the day when my nephrologist says I have to start dialysis. My fistula seems to be doing well, vibrating away. Why

NEED YOUR ADVICE...
Hi Everyone....hope you re all having a blessed day. Trying to find out if taking florisimide ( generic Lasix ) is good or bad for ckd stage 5. Also...if you are on dialysis or had to choose the best way to do dialysis, which one would you choose and why? THANK YOU ever so much.

Pd home changing to cycler severe edema.
I am currently on pd home dialysis. I felt as if it had stopped working and my Dr recently confirmed this. I have severe lower calf edema. It’s red spotty, itchy and dry and very tight. I am starting the cycler on Monday. Has anyone else had manual exchanges stop giving them proper fluid removal?

Traveling with Dialysis
I recently flew to another state to visit my mom and while traveling I thought about how it could be done while on PD and how best to go about it. It seemed impossible given all the flight delays and changing gates that went on. Has anyone done this successfully?

Parathyroid Hormone
I have been on dialysis for 7 years. Three years ago my primary physician advised I start receiving Prolia shots for Osteoporosis. I have had approximately 6 shots and each time my PTH increases greatly until time for the next shot when it falls below normal levels. These increases in PTH have caused

To use Procrit or not? 86 with end stage renal failure
My Uncle is 86 and has end stage renal failure. He does not want dialysis. His Dr wants him to start Procrit to help with the anemia. The side effects are daunting and he does not want to take it. Anyone have experience with Procrit?

KIDNEY & COVID
A major side effect of a Covid illness is deteriorating GFR. I am on a one way ticket to the dialysis chair thanks to a bout of Covid in early 2020. This is problem is a really “long” Covid.

Just started all of this June last year, love all of the info you share
Had my driver medical blood test done April last year. I get called in and was told 1 kidney had level 2 cancer and blood clot in superior vena cava, and that I needed immediate surgery. By mid June it was done with and I was hoping that was it. So when I went for a check up I was surprised to find

What's causing my son's left arm to expand?
Hi, my name is Thai and I have a 29yr old son who has chronic kidney disease. For the last 2 weeks he has been experiencing a lot of pain in his left arm, the same arm they use during dialysis. Not just only that but his left arm is also expanding too as well. I have asked the docter about his left

27 years off dialysis
In 1995 almost died from meningococcal sepsis. Was hospitalised over 6 months requiring wound care, debridement, skin grafts, amputations of fingers and toes. The resulting kidney damage classified as meningococcal Waterhouse Fridericksen syndrome. The treatment was dialysis to remove the bacteria

Stage 5 symptoms just before dialysis begins
Ok, some of you folks who have gone before me, tell me again what symptoms I should be seeing at stage 5 to know it's "time" to start dialysis. I've been waiting for these symptoms to show up for months and I still feel ok, doing pretty much whatever I want to do (within reason for my age-69). I see

Having a bit of a trying time.
Hello - the last few days have been not so good - no energy or motivation and this morning I had my breakfast and felt so sick afterwards I had to go back to bed. It has been slowly going downhill for a few days now.My biggest worry is that this all points to kidney function and the dialysis question

Preemptive transplant
For those of you with preemptive transplants, did you get started as soon as you could? My last lab was in Mar and I was at 22%. I've been dropping now for months and have labs due end of May where I think they'll be at 20% or lower. Other than being tired I feel ok and have started back working out

Leg pain in dialysis patients
I am on twice a week dialysis and experiencing continuous leg pain and weakness. I am taking multivitamins, iron supplements but not much relief. Any idea how to tackle this pain?

Scary times
Just learned that my gfr is down to 14. I knew dialysis was in my future but now it looks like it is here. Not a candidate for peritoneal dialysis because of too many abdominal surgeries. Worried about having cannulas in my arm. Seems like a high risk for infection. I had MRSA and it was very unpleasant

73 year old patient w/o transport to dialysis
I am a Care Navigator and a nurse I support has a client who is Stage 3, ESRD. He doesn't have transportation to his dialysis. Does anyone on this blog live in Shelton, Washington or near there? I'm trying to find resources for him. We had $1,000 we were able to spend getting him to his dialysis

Painkillers for Drain Pain
Last night I suffered excruciating drain pain through all 8 hours of dialysis this has never happened to me before. All day my stomach has felt tender and tight. I never ever take painkillers for anything but last night was horrible. Does anyone know if painkillers would help or I am open to any other

Magnesium supplements
Hello - what are other peoples views on taking magnesium supplements. I have read conflicting information on this subject. I have invested in Lee Hull,s book and it states that magnesium is good for the heart as it helps to prevent calcification especially if you are on dialysis. On the other hand I
