Traveling with Dialysis

I recently flew to another state to visit my mom and while traveling I thought about how it could be done while on PD and how best to go about it. It seemed impossible given all the flight delays and changing gates that went on. Has anyone done this successfully?

The one time I flew from NY to Miami, it was pretty easy. When I made the initial reservation I requested a wheelchair, so I didn't have to walk all over the airport. then I ordered a "Medical Device" luggage tag from Amazon for the carrying case and it made the experience so much easier. There was an attendant to push the chair, we practically flew through TSA, then to the Delta Sky Club because my daughter & I were about 2 hours early. When I was ready to go to the gate, another attendant showed up and wheeled me there. Same thing when we landed in Miami. I also called Baxter about 3 weeks before my travel date to schedule the delivery of fluid bags to the hotel; they arrived a day before I did, and the bellhop brought them up to the room after we checked in. This was last June, and when I got back to NY I got "the call" the next day!

Thank you. So far the only flying I'm doing is to visit family so I guess I'd send the supplies to their houses.

I'm not on dialysis so can't speak to that but I recently flew from Phoenix to Cincinnati. I had to request a wheel chair because of hip and back issues but it went great. I had a nonstop flight so that helped too but the attendants were great about getting me where I had to go. You might want to get there with plenty of time to spare in case they are busy.

Thanks. I'll keep this in mind. I'm not on dialysis and really hope to avoid it but I like to know what my options are if that comes up. I'm a firm believer in "Just in Case"
