Risk of cardiovascular events in men treated for PCa.
Medications that improve heart health including
statins
, aspirin, and metformin (S.A.M.), and specific beta-blocker medications are primarily generic or low-cost and should continue to garner research interest.

Cholesterol - cause or correlation?
The context for me is that I am advised to take
statins
but have chosen not to. Instead, I have tried very hard to optimise the diet and excercise measures that promote good health and reduce the risk of a cardio event.

I am 60. I have high cholesterol. This BHF 12 week 'course' has REALLY helped me. TRY IT.
The doc said it was time for
statins
. I wanted to try everything else first. He put me onto the BHF plan. I've lost a stone in 4 weeks. No calorie counting (I just couldn't seem to get into My Fitness Pal this time, even though I lost 4 stones using it a few years ago!).

Plant sterol and stage 4 CKD
I cannot take
statins
due to them causing muscle wastage and pain. The cholesterol injections have not been tested on CKD patients. I have tried to research plant sterol as a possible solution but NICE do not recommend this supplement for people with CKD. Has anyone any suggestions on a solution?

Better news re travel insurance
I recently wrote re refusal of medical cover due to waiting for blood tests & liver scan following abnormal liver function test (due to
statins
). Blood tests now normal but same conditions apply since GP repeating tests to make sure & still wants me to have scan.

Stains & liver function
Have been told to stop the
statins
for a few days then start again on 20 mg pending a repeat blood test. Anyone else experienced this?

I had a bad fall on my right knee, over a year ago. Had it x-rayed but they said it's fine.
Since my GP put me on
Statins
, both legs and my knee have swollen beyond belief. I took myself off
Statins
and they went down but my knee is excruciating at times. I've had one steroid injection, which didn't seem to do much. Sometimes, something will click in my knee and it is like magic.

What's your ACTUAL risk of heart disease?
If your doctor tells you that you have "high cholesterol" and are therefore at risk of heart disease, ask him for a CAC scan before he doses you up on

Microvascular Angina (CSX)
I am on beta blockers,
statins
, Angina medication, blood thinners the usual medication. All recent test results are clear as expected with MVA. I have now had to give up work as I have been off since December last year when I was admitted into hospital for a week as I have quite a sever attack.

Should I get on the statins conveyor belt
Following a blood test at my doctors they came up with a score of 15% as the likelihood of me having a heart attack etc in the next 10 years. I've looked at the test and it scoring mechanism and it seems very rough and ready to me. Also, it doesn't fit with the way I feel. I am a healthy 66 man who runs

Statin muscle pain
I understand that
statins
can cause muscle and joint pains. I have been on Atorvastatin for about nine months and not had much issue but recently seem to have developed some muscular pain around the upper chest and especially some aches around my collar bone. Have others had similar issues ?
