I've been told in no uncertain terms I have to take
statins
. I'm not overly enamoured about that as there seems to be so many varying studies; some say they'll give you dementia and muscle wasting, others say they prevent dementia and pain is limited - its an absolute minefield.

Even though I take anticoagulant
statins
work in a different way and are recommended for me as I am in persistent afib I do not want to take
statins
but wondered what you fellow afibbers think of
statins
and if you are happy to take them

GP has suggested
statins
. What does the collective mind think about these? I’ve asked for an appointment to discuss this.

I can’t tell if it is from the pmr or
statins
(on 5 mg of Crestor/rosuvastatin) I did flare about 3 months ago (before
statins
) when going from 2.5 to 2 mgs and followed flare protocol. A side affect of
statins
is stiff and achy muscles. Should I get a CRP blood test.

I have recently been prescribed Atorvastatin due to 8.4 cholesterol. Had thyroidectomy 20 years ago. Been on 75mg thyroxine for some time. Had some blood results for cholesterol and noticed that my tsh has increased to 2.75 .. normally is suppressed at 0.003 approx. Trying to get bloods done for T4

All of my results for cholesterol were within the ranges but my doc advised that it’s recommended I go on
statins
as my Qrisk2 score was above 20%.

cramps caused by statins?
During that time he has had to switch
statins
3 times due to pain and cramps in shoulders. He is now suffering terribly from continuous cramping in his legs. Do you feel it is the
statins
causing this?

Ibs and statins
Hi. I have had ibs for 40+years and now being told I need to take a statin. Can anyone tell me the best statin to take with ibs. I am wondering if ezetimibe would be better as I don't want to make my ibs worse.

Yes,
statins
do lower cholesterol, he confirmed, but the reason to take them was for their "pleiotropic" or anti-inflammatory effects. Like aspirin was discovered to do other things than reduce pain,
statins
were found to reduce inflammation.

Acne on statins
I have noticed that since being put on
statins
(4 months now and moved from Atorvastatin to Simvastatin) that I have developed acne. I'm 64 and the original reading was 6.9. Anyone else experiencing this? Your replies I thank.

I have read that T can be a side affect of taking
statins
, or is this just a coincidein my case? I'm thinking of stopping the
statins
as I'd rather risk a heart attack or stroke than live like this. Has anyone else experienced this?
