I have been on 80 mg of atorvastatin for nearly 7 weeks following a HA. My GP rang this morning to say blood test shows a significant problem with my liver function which is 'all over the place'. Lipids OK at 3.3. Have been told to stop the statins for a few days then start again on 20 mg pending a repeat blood test. Anyone else experienced this?

Stains & liver function
Of course I meant statins not stains! I now see there has been discussion about this in the past but any more comments welcome.
My Atorvastatin dose was increased by a factor of four following a quadruple bypass. A blood test at three weeks showed an issue with liver function. I was told to stay on the same dose and have another blood test in another three weeks. That one was normal. I suspect the 80mg (maximum dose) is too aggressive initially and like Bisoprolol it should be cranked up over time (if necessary).
80 mg is a lot talk to your Dr.
Exactly the same thing happened to me after heart attack and 80 mg of atorvastatin, when my liver returned to normal I was put on 10 mg of a statin, same thing happened so statins are out for me, they have joined the aspirin which caused a bleed.
I was also put on 80 mg statins when I had a heart attack last year , I’m more concerned about the damage it could be doing to my liver also , I’ve questioned it a couple of times but been told it will always be that high dose , I insist on blood tests every 6 months but up till now I’ve been okay but I can’t say I’m happy taking such a high dose ...
